The card on day one of the July Festival features two top Group Two races. The first of those is the July Stakes, which serves as one of the key juvenile races during the spring. Colts who impress in the July Stakes often go on to target the Middle Park Stakes and the Dewhurst later in the season.

We've taken a look through the field for this year's July Stakes and picked out our best bets.

Three form lines from Royal Ascot will come together in the July Stakes, as runners who featured prominently in this year's Coventry Stakes, Norfolk Stakes and Windsor Castle Stakes lock horns.

Eldrick Jones followed Berkshire Shadow home in the 2021 Coventry Stakes, and he sits atop the Newmarket betting. Ebro River was only fifth that day, but he did have a very tricky draw in stall one to overcome.

Project Dante finished a narrow third behind Perfect Power in the Norfolk Stakes, and Bryan Smart's youngster steps up beyond five furlongs for the first time today. Dig Two placed second in the Windsor Castle Stakes and now returns to six furlongs, having won well over this trip at Chelmsford back in May.

Tolstoy could only place tenth in the Coventry Stakes, but he was still only beaten just over five lengths. The Organiser pulled his way to the front at the half-way stage in that Group Two, and understandably faded late on to finish 12th.

Of those who didn't run at Royal Ascot, Lusail sits most prominently in the market, and Richard Hannon's charge will be looking for his third win of the season on Thursday. Aysmmetric is unbeaten in two starts and brings course-and-distance winning form to the table.

and Aleezdancer come into this Group Two on the back of a win. Sam Maximus rounds off the betting.

The one I'm keen to side with is DIG TWO, who'll relish this step back up in trip.

Hugo Palmer decided to split his juveniles up at Ascot, thrusting Ebro River into the Coventry Stakes, with Dig Two entering the Windsor Castle. Throughout Royal Ascot, runners drawn high had a big advantage. The Windsor Castle Stakes, however, was one of the few races that went against that trend.

Impressive winner, Chipotle was drawn in stall one, and three of the top five finishers came from single-figure stalls. Dig Two was drawn down in 25 and had to circumnavigate the wandering Ruthin, but still ran a cracking race to finish first on his side of the track, second overall behind Chipotle.

Palmer's juvenile comfortably beat a rival now rated 90 second time out on the Rowley Mile. He's also won over six furlongs this term, having thrashed a future winner at Chelmsford when giving almost a stone to the runner-up.

Although James Doyle has opted to ride Ebor River, Tom Marquand will relish the chance to shine on Palmer's supposed second-string. This looks a wide-open race, and Dig Two has shown enough during the first half of the season to suggest he can succeed at this sort of level.

Dig Two has really impressed me so far this season, and he looks a fantastic each-way bet in this open renewal of the July Stakes.
