The first Group One for older horses staged during the British flat season is the historic Lockinge Stakes, a one-mile event which has been won by legendary names like Brigadier Gerard, Selkirk and Frankel since it's creation in the 1950s.

Here's the latest Lockinge Stakes betting and a look through the most likely runners.

After ante-post favourite Inspiral was taken out, Modern Games has risen to the head of the Newbury betting. Charlie Appleby's star fell to a shock defeat on his reappearance out in America, but that hasn't stopped the bookmakers from listing Modern Games as their new 5/2 favourite.

With Inspiral out, John and Thady Gosden will be represented by the lightly-raced Laurel, who finished second in the Sun Chariot Stakes last Autumn. William Haggas could run Champion Stakes third My Prospero, with Simon and Ed Crisford set to unleash QEII third Jadoomi.

On the back of his impressive victory in the bet365 Mile, Mutasaabeq could step back up into Group One company. Andre Fabre has entered up multiple Group-winner Tribalist, with Richard Hannon set to run the consistent Chindit.

Other possible Lockinge runners include Light Infantry and Checkandchallenge, who both finished behind Mutasaabeq on their reappearance at Newmarket. Angel Bleu, Triple Time, Berkshire Shadow, Cash and Lusail also feature in the betting.
