The Big Trend

William Buick has ridden more winners at Haydock this season than anyone else, aided in no small part by a four-timer here on Thursday. With a full book of rides on Saturday, many of which look to have real chances, he could be one to follow with your Placepot selections.

One who immediately catches the eye is HAFIT (Leg 1 - 13:15) who steps up to Listed level after a winning debut. Purchased for a whopping 2,100,000 guineas as a yearling, he finished off his race powerfully at Newmarket and this step up to a mile is bound to suit. With only four runners in the race, we’ll need the winner to progress so we’ll double him up with TRIPLE TIME.

Second over 7f here in a race which is working out very well with three subsequent winners in behind, he took a big step forward when tackling the mile next time. By Frankel and out of a mare who has produced four other black-type winners, he’s certainly one that catches the eye on breeding.

Placepot Banker

STARMAN (Leg 5 - 15:40)  has quickly asserted himself as the horse to beat over 6f and could be the dominant horse in this division for a couple of seasons to come. A win in the Clipper preceded quite frankly a sensational performance in the July Cup where he put distance between himself and a quality field. You can forgive his run in France last time where it came up soft and back on properly quick ground he can claim another Group 1. Emaraaty Ana was a good second in the Nunthorpe and looks the each-way play.

Outsider to Consider

ARTISTIC RIFLES (Leg 2 - 13:45)  has a little bit to find on official figures, but Edward Bethell’s 5yo has taken his form to a new level this season and could outrun his odds here. This French recruit is turning out to be a very shrewd acquisition, winning three of his five starts since joining this yard and going up 17lb in the process. He heads here after a cosy win at Hamilton and deserves his crack in group company after that performance. Lord Glitters is the obvious danger and this Group 1 winner rates as the one they’ll all have to beat.

Torpedo Leg

Global Storm is likely to be very popular in the Old Borough Cup and he could be the group horse in a handicap here. However, we really didn’t like his run in the Ebor and on that basis he’s worth taking on.

RAJINSKY (Leg 4 - 14:55) deserves to get his head in front in one of these big handicaps and today could be the day. He ran a big race at York last time but just couldn’t get to the well-backed favourite. Denied a clear run in this race last year, he ran a belter over 2m at this track back in May and with a bit of luck could go very close. We’ll double him up with Northumberland Plate winner NICHOLAS T.
