The early betting for this handicap is looking as competitive as ever. Liam Swagger is fancied for James Owen, having finished a close third in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival on his most recent start. Andrew Balding runs Wild Waves, sixth in the St Leger on his final three-year-old start.

Wise Eagle won this race in 2023 and returns to Musselburgh on the back of a solid hurdling campaign. Karl Burke's Aimeric drops back to handicap company, having placed in five Listed races last season. Align The Stars should be race-fit, having finished a very close third behind Al Qareem in the Further Flight at Nottingham.

Along with Liam Swagger, James Owen has entered winning hurdler Cavern Club. Charlie Johnston's Struth and Knightswood could join stablemate Align The Stars in the field. Adrian Keatley has entered Kihavah, who finished third in the Grade One Fighting Fifth Hurdle earlier in the season.

Ed Bethell's Chillingham went close in the Autumn Cup at the backend of last season, having taken his chance in the Ebor. Other potential runners on Saturday include Kevin Ryan's Dark Moon Rising, Faylaq for local trainer Jim Goldie, and Loughville for David Egan and Alan King.
