Wesley Ward was in a bullish mood when discussing the chances of his runners at Royal Ascot 2022.

Ward first tasted success at Royal Ascot back in 2009, when Strike The Tiger carried odds of 33/1 to victory in the Windsor Castle Stakes. Since then, the 54-year-old has taken his tally of Royal winners to 12, including victories in the King's Stand Stakes and the Platinum Jubilee Stakes.

Campanelle is responsible for Ward's two most recent wins, having won the Queen Mary Stakes in 2020 and the Commonwealth Cup 12 months ago, and Ward has pointed his filly at the Diamond Jubilee Stakes this time around.

"She's training great." Ward told the press. "We've planned on this since last year. We were keen to try for three times if at all possible, as we know how tough that is."

"She's certainly a great sportswoman and she's come back and she's flourished for her time down in Florida. Since she got back, one work after another has been fantastic and she won brilliantly (at Keeneland in April), it was beautiful."

Spearheading Ward's challenge is top sprinter Golden Pal, who currently tops the betting for the King's Stand Stakes. Ward has waxed lyrical about Golden Pal for some time now, describing his Breeders' Cup winner as the fastest horse he's ever trained.

"I'm so excited for this horse I can't even tell you," Ward said. "He's the best I've ever brought to Ascot in all these years, and I've brought some good ones, but this guy is the fastest of the fast. He's certainly the fastest I've ever had.

"He's really matured from last year to this. Mentally and physically he's gotten bigger and stronger, as any horse would from three to four, but he's just a pure athlete and this is his year."

In-form jockey, Irad Ortiz Jnr will travel over to Ascot for the first time to take all of Ward's rides. Ortiz' Jnr's book will also include Love Reigns, who bids to hand Ward a fifth victory in the Queen Mary Stakes, and Ruthin, who will take his chance in the Palace of Holyroodhouse Handicap.

Her World has been handed King's Stand Stakes and Commonwealth Cup entries. Ward also said that speedy two-year-old, Seismic Spirit will run in the Windsor Castle Stakes.

Bookmakers Ladbrokes are offering 6/5 on Wesley Ward to saddle one winner at Royal Ascot 2022.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes told RacingInsider.com: “Wesley Ward is never far from punters’ thoughts when it comes to Royal Ascot and this year will be no different as he arrives with a possible team of five. With Golden Pal spearheading the team, we don’t think he will be retuning stateside emptyhanded.”

How many Royal Ascot winners will Wesley Ward train this year? (Odds taken from Ladbrokes)

Zero - 3/1
Exactly 1 - 6/5
Exactly 2 - 11/4
3 or more - 9/2
