US Racing fans have two excellent Grade Ones to enjoy on Saturday night. Juveniles take center-stage in the Champagne Stakes, before a field of classy older horses goes toe-to-toe in the Woodward Stakes, which has often acted as a key trial for the Breeders' Cup Classic.
We've taken a closer look at both Group Ones and picked out our best US Racing tips
Belmont Tips - Saturday 2nd October
Race 1 - Champagne Stakes Tips
Gunite got the better of Wit when they met in the Hopeful Stakes last time out. Wit, who has started very slowly on all three of his starts, is fancied to reverse that form judging by the betting, but I'd rather take both on with the impressive JACK CHRISTOPHER.
Chad Brown's colt was heavily backed before making his debut at Saratoga, and proceeded to trounce his rivals by almost ten lengths. While he may look like more of a sprinter, there are clues in his breeding that suggest he will get a mile, and he'll be hard to peg back if he does deal with this extended trip.
Race 2 - Woodward Stakes Tips
Maxfield looks to be a worthy favourite based on his form this season, but he often finds at least one a little too good at Grade One level and he's too short in the betting for me. I'm not totally convinced by either Code Of Honour or Art Collector, and neither Dr Post nor Mo Gotcha holds much appeal.
FORZA DI ORO is an interesting contender. Billy Mott's charge won the Discovery Stakes on his only start of 2020, and ran out a comfortable winner of a claimer on his return to action in July. On the back of that effort, Forza Di Oro was backed into 11/10 to win the Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes, but did a little too much on the front end that day and faded as Max Player came through to win.
That was the first time Forza Di Oro had raced over ten furlongs and he didn't seem to enjoy that final furlong. Dropping back to nine furlongs should really suit and he's the only runner who looks good value to me.
