US Racing Tips - Saturday 9th October

Race 1 - Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes Tips

The top two from last month's Sword Dancer Stakes renew rivalries here, and for me, they're to two stand-out candidates. Gufo got the better of JAPAN that day, thanks mainly to some excellent tactical riding from Joel Rosario, who didn't allow Ryan Moore to angle out off the rail at they entered the home straight and by the time Japan found clear air, it was too late.

This time, Wayne Lordon may be able to track Rosario, having been drawn outside the favourite in stall seven. Japan's two victories this season have been boosted significantly in recent starts, with Ormonde Stakes second Trueshan winning his second Group One and Meld Stakes second Maker Of Kings bolting up in a Group Three last time out. I'm backing Japan to turn the tables on Gufo this evening.

Race 2 - First Lady Stakes Tips

Althiqa has beaten stablemate Summer Romance in two US Grade Ones this season and she will attempt to land a hat-trick for Charlie Appleby. Irish 1000 Guineas winner, Empress Josephine returned to form with a strong fourth in the Matron last time out and she sits second in the market.

Both like to be held up off a strong early pace. As does the speedy Regal Glory, Harvey's Lil Goil and Viadera, who've all come from the rear to win good races this term. However, there's a distanct chance that BLOWOUT could get an uncontested lead and she's tough enough on the front end to hold on and claim victory.

Flavien Prat opened up a commanding lead when allowed to dictate in the Churchill Distaff back in May, and the field was unable to peg her back. Joel Rosario was forced to set quicker middle fractions in the Fourstardave as she was pestered for the lead, eventually fading back to fourth. Chad Brown's five-year-old is the only real front-runner in this field and she ran very well on her only previous start over course-and-distance. Blowout looks a decent each-way bet at 7/1.

Race 3 - Breeders' Futurity Tips

This key trial for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile looks wide open, with most firms going 4/1 the field. Classic Causeway has a tricky draw to overcome, but couldn't have been more impressive on debut. Don't Wait Up is a player, as is Tyler Gaffalione's mount Great Escape.

The one I like at an each-way price is RATTLE N ROLL, who finished third behind a future Grade One winner when he made his debut over six furlongs. Brian Hernandez then had to pull his mount up at Saratoga, when a clump of dirt kicked up and hit him in the eye. Rattle N Roll proved he was no worse for wear for that incident on his return two weeks ago, kicking clear to win a maiden over course-and-distance by three lengths, and he looks a strong stayer over this trip.

Race 4 - Keeneland Turf Mile Stakes Tips

ORDER OF AUSTRALIA returns to the scene of his shock Breeders' Cup success of 12 months ago, and he can land an across-the-cards Grade One could for Aidan O'Brien and Coolmore on Saturday.

O'Brien's charge only got into the 2021 Breeders' Cup Mile as a reserve, but produced a fantastic performance to win that lucrative race at odds of 40/1. Order Of Australia has continued to progress this season, winning a Grade Two in good style at the Curragh, before successive two-length defeats to Palace Pier and Baaeed, who're rated 125 and 121 respectively.

Although he can make all the running, John Velazquez's mount is even more effective when given a toe into a race, and he's got a couple of likely front-runners in Somelikeithotbrown and Brown Storm to aim at. I don't want to side against the favourite.
