Saturday's main event in Britain takes place at Newbury, as a talented field takes part in the Hungerford Stakes. This Group Two was first run back in 1949, and has been won by classy sorts like Distant Relative, Paco Boy and Excelebration.

2025 Hungerford Stakes Runners

In the absence of ante-post favourite Notable Speech, the betting for Saturday's feature is headed by More Thunder. William Haggas recruit has done nothing but improve since joining, and steps up to Group company after a narrow victory in the Bunbury Cup.

King's Gamble progressed nicely last term, and returned to action this summer with a runner-up finish in the Hackwood Stakes here at Newbury. John & Thady Gosden's colt Spy Chief could step back up in trip after a seventh-place finish in the July Cup.

Witness Stand could go for his second Group Two on the bounce, having powered to victory in the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Hackwood Stakes winner, Rage Of Bamby steps up to seven furlongs. As does Marco Botti's two-time Chartwell Fillies' Stakes winner, Great Generation.

Jim Crowley and Owen Burrows team up with Listed winner Alyanaabi. Fair Angelica represents Richard Hughes. Andrew Balding's three-year-old Marvelman, and Archie Watson's Fred Darling scorer Duty First complete the line-up.

2025 Hungerford Stakes Tips

There should be no shortage of pace on here, with potential front-runners split across the whole track. Witness Stand and Duty First like to go forward from their low draws, while Spy Chief and Marvelman will likely be up with the pace on the higher side of the track.

The race should set up nicely for More Thunder, who likes to rattled home from well off the pace. As does GREAT GENERATION (14/1), and Marco Botti's classy filly has certainly been underestimated.

Great Generation's position in the betting is solely due to her most recent performance at Royal Ascot. Botti's four-year-old was always going to struggle over six furlongs on rattling-fast ground, and Great Generation could never get involved in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, crossing the line ninth behind Lazzat.

On left-handed tracks like Newbury, Great Generation boasts an excellent record. Marco Ghiani's mount has twice won the Chartwell Fillies' Stakes at Lingfield, and carried a penalty to victory in the Group Three Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster during the last St Leger Festival.

Botti would ideally like a bit of rain before Saturday's contest, but Great Generation has winning form on good-to-firm ground and the race should be run to suit her fast-finishing style. At 14/1, she represents plenty of each-way value.
