ITV Racing Tips on August 22nd - Top tips on Nunthorpe day at York
The penultimate day of the 2025 Ebor Festival presents thrilling prospects at York with races like the Sky Bet Handicap and Nunthorpe Stakes. Significant value could be found with ASGAARD'S CAPTAIN at 20/1 in the Sky Bet Handicap and AL NAYYIR at 16/1 in the Lonsdale Cup owing to their promising previous performances. EGOLI, priced at 9/1, is a competitive contender in the open Gimcrack Stakes following respectable runs, while BRIELLE, making a handicap debut, may very well excel with an opening mark of 82.

Friday's Tips
We'll reach the penultimate day of the Ebor Festival on Friday afternoon. 17 top sprinters will contest the Nunthorpe Stakes, with the ITV Racing cameras also capturing the Lonsdale Cup and a couple of competitive handicaps.
Here are my best betting tips on day three of the 2025 Ebor Festival.
ITV Racing Tips - Friday 22nd August
1:50pm York - Sky Bet Handicap Tips
Usually, this race goes the way of a progressive four-year-old. Two of the three four-year-olds in this field head the betting, but Mount Atlas has a career-high mark of 107 to overcome and French Duke has run poorly on both starts this term.
ASGAARD'S CAPTAIN (20/1) caught the eye with a late rattle in the Shergar Cup Challenge, where Katie Scott's mount went from near last to a two-length fifth in the final furlong of the contest.
Dylan Cunha will have been delighted with that effort, as his five-year-old has struggled on his four previous starts. Asgard's Captain rose to a mark of 91 following an emphatic victory at Epsom in April, but should be competitive again off this lesser mark of 88.
2:25pm York - Lonsdale Cup Tips
Trawlerman might not have everything his own way out in front on Friday. Al Qareem loves to make the running, and Shackleton can be very keen early on. AL NAYYIR (16/1) needs a fast pace to aim at, and Tom Clover's stayer should get that set-up.
James Doyle's mount flew home from well off the pace to finish just a neck adrift of Vauban in this race 12 months ago. Al Nayyir then had his emphatic Rose Bowl Stakes win thrown out after testing positive for a banned substance, and his first three performances this year offered little encouragement.
Last time out, however, Al Nayyir came within a short-head of upsetting Coltrane in the Coral Marathon, where a fairly sedate gallop wouldn't have been to his liking. Clover's seven-year-old is more than capable of producing a big performance, and offers plenty of value at 16/1.
3:00pm York - Gimcrack Stakes Tips
You know it's not a strong renewal of a Group Two when there's a five-race maiden topping the betting. Do Or Do Not might have bumped into some talented sorts at the past three festivals, but I've got no interest in backing Ed Walker's runner at 7/4.
EGOLI (9/1) won his maiden well here at York in June, and followed up in good style at Newbury. Ralph Beckett's colt then finished sixth in the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood - but was first across the line from his small group down the centre of the track, as those drawn high dominated.
The two horses that Egoli beat at Newbury have won three times since. In that maiden here at York, Rossa Ryan's mount was much too good for Song Of The Clyde, who we saw landing the Premier Yearling Stakes here at York yesterday.

This son of No Nay Never is bred to be a sharp juvenile, and Egoli has already proven himself at the track. He's got every chance in a wide-open renewal of the Gimcrack.

4:10pm York - Fillies' Handicap Tips
I'm intrigued to see how BRIELLE (16/1) copes on her handicap debut. David O'Meara's three-year-old finished third behind two decent sorts on her debut over a mile, before hanging badly right as she placed second over 12 furlongs on her second outing at Thirsk.
Brielle opened her account in a maiden at Hamilton in July, where she made all over a mile and claimed a convincing success. Given her breeding, 10-and-a-half furlongs should be an ideal trip for this lightly-raced three-year-old, and this opening mark of 82 could turn out to be lenient.
