ITV Racing Tips - Saturday 7th October

Race 1 - Premier Fillies' Handicap Tips

This 10-furlong handicap has been won by a couple of future Group One winners, Al Husn and Via Sistina in recent years, so it's clearly a race worth following. Ryan Moore dons the blue Godolphin silks to ride favourite Whispering Words, but I'd rather side with LADY BOBA (12/1) as she makes her handicap debut.

Ralph Beckett's filly got off the mark at the third time of asking in a 12 furlongs novice at Ffos Las in July, where she cruised past Art De Vivre, who bolted up in a handicap on her very next start. Dropping back in trip should suit this strong traveller and Lady Boba's opening handicap mark of 82 looks rather lenient.

Race 2 - Rous Stakes Tips

With three paid places to play for in this Listed contest, I fancy a risky punt on CHIPSTEAD (16/1) - in the hope that first-time cheek-pieces can spark a return to top form.

Since winning well at York in May, Roger Teal's sprinter has struggled, finishing well down the field in the Wokingham, the City Walls and the Portland Handicap. Chipstead did, however, run well when fourth under top-weight in the Shergar Cup Dash on his penultimate start and his record at this time of year is very good. Jack Mitchell's mount represents plenty of value at 16/1.

Race 3 - October Auction Stakes Tips

Despite the healthy field size for this lucrative contest, only two of the eight winners have returned an SP longer than 13/2. Zoulu Chief is currently the even-money favourite, a price which doesn't appeal to me, despite his dominance in the ratings.

At the prices, I'll have a small punt on the experienced ALFA MOONSTONE (66/1). Craig Lidster started his filly out in the Lily Agnes at Chester and Alfa Moonstone looked good when winning at Catterick on her next start. William Pyle's mount has struggled in better races since, and was even given a spin at Listed level when last seen, but I wouldn't be surprised if she put up a bold showing from the front and clung on for a place here.

Race 4 - Cumberland Lodge Stakes Tips

Claymore is a horse I've liked since his juvenile days and I'm delighted to see the 2022 Hampton Court winner back out on the track. Jane Chapple-Hyam's exuberant colt could need this run to knock the freshness off him, but I'll be eager to side with Claymore wherever he shows up next.

The Cumberland Lodge has been kind on older horses in recent years, so I'm happy to side with the six-year-old AL AASY (6/4). Apart from a dismal reappearance at Newmarket - where his earplugs weren't removed at the start - William Haggas' charge has enjoyed a fruitful campaign, winning the Steventon Stakes and the Rose Of Lancaster, before finishing a close second to Adelaide River on Irish Champions Weekend.

Al Aasy hasn't got any three-year-olds to give weight to in this Group Three and Jim Crowley's mount won the Buckhounds Stakes over this course-and-distance last May.

Race 5 - Two Year Old Trophy Tips

We'll now dip over to Redcar for the Two Year Old Trophy and its Dragon Leader who currently dominates the market. Kylian and Action Point will have to give the favourite almost a stone, thanks to their Listed wins earlier in the season. Nothing else really stands out. A no-bet race for me.

Race 6 - Bengough Stakes Tips

On the back of that excellent weight-carrying victory in the Portland Handicap, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see ANNAF (9/2) finally make the breakthrough at pattern level on turf.

Mick Appleby's star sprinter recovered brilliantly from a slow start to strike under top-weight in the Portland, the form of which was boosted when runner-up Significantly came out and won the Ayr Gold Cup. Annaf wasn't beaten far in the Rous Stakes on this card last year and carried odds of 50/1 into the places in the King's Stand Stakes during this year's Royal Meeting. Rossa Ryan's mount is drawn nicely out in stall eight and good ground should be ideal.

Race 8 - Challenge Cup Tips

Course form is often vital in handicaps at Ascot and it's no surprise to see four in-form course-and-distance winners topping the betting. You have to scroll a decent way down the market until you reach ATRIUM (20/1), who has scored over seven furlongs and a mile here at Ascot and ended his three-year-old campaign with two impressive handicap wins last autumn.

Charlie Fellowes' four-year-old struggled in the top one mile handicaps earlier in the season and celebrated his return to seven furlongs by dead-heating with the classy Gweedore at Doncaster in July. Slow starts have proved costly for Atrium on his last couple of outings, but if Harry Davies' mount can get off to a level break from a good high draw in stall 13, then he's handicapped well enough to lay down a challenge.
