ITV Racing Tips on December 28th - Saturday's selections at Newbury and Leopardstown

ITV will broadcast live coverage from the Leopardstown Christmas Festival and Newbury's Challow Hurdle day this Saturday. The highlight of the day is the Savills Chase featuring the clash between Galopin Des Champs and Fact To File. Newbury will host several strong races, including the handicap hurdles and chases. Additionally, Leicester is on the schedule with a couple of competitive handicaps. With top-class races lined up, viewers can expect a thrilling day of horse racing.

For the first time this week, ITV will show some big-race action from the Leopardstown Christmas Festival. Two Grade Ones will be shown live from Ireland, including Galopin Des Champs clash with Fact To File in the Savills Chase. Newbury chips in with four strong races on Challow Hurdle day, and the ITV cameras will also head to Leicester for a couple of handicaps.

Here are my best betting tips for Newbury and Leopardstown on Saturday.

1:45pm Newbury - Handicap Hurdle Tips


Dan Skelton is a genius with handicap hurdlers and I can't see MR HOPE STREET'S (10/3) progress being interrupted on Saturday. Skelton's six-year-old won his first handicap off a mark of 91 last April. Three victories and a runner-up finish since have helped him rise up to this fresh mark of 124.

Mr Hope Street had plenty left up his sleeve when scoring over three miles at Southwell earlier this month, and won cosily over this distance nine days later at Warwick. Skelton has found another good opportunity for this strong-travelling handicapper. The track at Newbury should suit too.

2:00pm Leopardstown - Savills Hurdle Tips


If you take Teahupoo out of the staying hurdles division, the rest are all a much of a muchness. Home By The Lee took down Bob Olinger in the recent Lismullen Hurdle, but you wouldn't be surprised if that form was reversed or if either finished outside of the frame.

With three paid places up for grabs, I'm going to have a speculative punt on SANDOR CLEGANE (20/1). Paul Nolan's charge finished second on his return to hurdling at Clonmel. Sean O'Keeffe's mount jumped the first three flights poorly, was rushed up on the bend to get into contention and couldn't find an extra gear late on as Franciscan Rock kept on to claim a narrow victory.

Despite never really convincing over fences, Sandor Clegane wasn't beaten far when fourth in two Grade Ones in the spring. Nolan's seven-year-old should take high rank in a fairly weak division and a couple of winners for the stable on Boxing Day could signal a change in fortunes for Sandor Clegane.

2:20pm Newbury - Handicap Chase Tips


We've seen plenty of recruits to Paul Nicholls' yard run flat on their stable debuts, before bouncing back to top form on their second outing. INCH HOUSE (7/1) moved to Ditcheat from Jonjo O'Neill's yard during the off-season and was pulled up on his return to action in the Sir Peter O'Sullevan Handicap on Coral Gold Cup day.

Inch House claimed back-to-back wins at Newbury last winter, including an impressive triumph in the Sir Peter O'Sullevan, before finishing a very good second to Stumptown off a mark of 137 on New Year's Day. The handicapper has dropped Harry Cobden's mount down to a mark of just 132 following that return to action and Nicholls has fitted first-time cheek-pieces for this winnable contest.

2:35pm Leopardstown - Savills Chase Tips


Defending champion, Galopin Des Champs will be looking to avenge his defeat in the John Durkan last month, where he was beaten into third behind younger stablemate Fact To File.

No bet for me in this one either.

3:35pm Newbury - Novices' Limited Handicap Chase Tips


SHANAGH BOB (9/2) can't possibly run as bad as he did on his chasing debut at Uttoxeter. Nicky Henderson's mount drifted from odds-on out to 11/10 before the off and made a significant error at the third fence. Nico De Boinville was already hard at work on the favourite on the turn for home and gave up the ghost fairly early, trailing home last of the five finishers.

Henderson's six-year-old was the best of these over hurdles. Shanagh Bob won the Bristol Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham in December, before a fourth-place finish behind Dancing City in the Sefton at Aintree. This strapping son of Mahler was built to be a staying chaser and Henderson has had a month to iron out those jumping issues. I'd be amazed if we didn't see a much-improved performance from this former Grade Two winner.
