Sir Gino and Mystical Power head the field for the 2024 Fighting Fifth Hurdle on Saturday. ITV Racing will be showing the Fighting Fifth and the Rehearsal Chase live from Newcastle, plus four excellent races from Newbury on Coral Gold Cup day.

Here are my best betting tips for Newbury and Newcastle on Saturday.

1:54pm Newbury - Handicap Hurdle Tips

Nicky Henderson, Paul Nicholls and Dan Skelton have good records in this contest, and all three are represented on Saturday. I'm going to side away from the big guns and back ISSAM (9/1), who made a pleasing return to action in the Welsh Champion Hurdle.

Tom Symonds' six-year-old drifted out to 20/1 before the off and was held up on the inside for much of that contest. Despite jumping through the wing of the third-last when getting outpaced, Daryl Jacob's mount plugged on gamely to finish fourth behind Lump Sum and last weekend's winner, Steel Ally.

Jordan Nailor's mount won twice on soft ground last season, including an impressive victory over Resplendent Grey on his final start over two-and-a-half miles at Wincanton. Today's trip and ground conditions will suit Issam better than what he faced at Ffos Las last month, and Symonds' horse have been going well of late.

2:25pm Newbury - Gerry Feilden Handicap Hurdle Tips

I'm perfectly happy to side away from the quirky Jeriko Du Reponet and the four-year-old Liari doesn't appeal much to me either. The most solid option for me is QUEENS GAMBLE (7/1), who will try to preserve her unbeaten record over hurdles.

After two comfortable maiden victories, Harry Derham's mare saw off Casa No Mento when landing the Listed Mares' Novice Hurdle at Taunton at the end of December. Sadly, injury ruled Queens Gamble out for the rest of the season, but Casa No Mento went on to boost her form considerably, reaching a mark of 138 after scoring at the Punchestown Festival.

In numerous stable tours, Derham was keen to reiterate that it was only a minor issue that kept Queen's Gamble off the track last season and that this handicap has been the target for her return. She could be very well-handicapped off a mark of 130.

3:00pm Newbury - Coral Gold Cup Tips

Broadway Boy has risen to the top of the market after just 14 runners were confirmed in the field. There's no getting away from the fact that this is a very poor renewal and something has to be done to resurrect what was once the best handicap of the entire season.

3:20pm Newcastle - Rehearsal Chase Tips

Once again, jumps racing hasn't done itself any favours by staging this staying handicap on the same day as the Coral Gold Cup. The likes of The Changing Man, Bowtogreatness and Neon Moon have opted to travel north instead of the much shorter trip to Newbury, further diminishing the field for our previous contest.

I'm going to have an each-way punt on SOME SCOPE (16/1), who ran terribly when pulled up on his reappearance at Cheltenham.

Richard Hobson's six-year-old won two staying handicaps on good ground last term and wasn't unfancied on his return to action at Prestbury Park. Some Scope underwent a breathing op three days after that disappointing return to action. If that's sorted the problem, he could run a cracker under just 10-7.

3:35pm Newbury - Handicap Chase Tips

Imperial Saint beat Petit Tonnerre by less than a length when getting a pound from the runner-up at Aintree in October. Having followed up in great style, Imperial Saint will have to give Petit Tonnerre 11 pounds when they meet again on Saturday and the long run-in at Newbury will suit Jonjo O'Neill's mount well.

I'm going to take both on with ISSAR D'AIRY (6/1), who won twice over this course-and-distance last season. Gary and Josh Moore's mount beat Martator when making a winning chasing debut, before holding I'd Like To Know at bay when following up in January.

Niall Houlihan's mount ran a cracker on his reappearance at Ascot, finishing a fairly close second to Martator, who bolted up again last weekend. The Moore's had a couple of welcome winners earlier this week and Issar d'Airy will relish the extra cut in the ground.
