Before the ITV Racing team arrive at Newmarket for the final two days of the Cambridgeshire Meeting, Newmarket stages a strong card on Thursday afternoon.
Thursday's card is headlined by a Listed double-header, as the Rose Bowl Stakes follows the Tattersalls Stakes. We've taken a closer look at both races and picked out our best betting tips.
Newmarket Tips - Thursday 22nd September
Race 4 - Tattersalls Stakes Tips
18+ only. Ts and Cs apply.
Three talented colts will clash in this intriguing running of the Tattersalls Stakes. On this occasion, I'm going to side with once-raced NOSTRUM over Denford Stakes winner, Victory Dance and surprise Chesham Stakes hero, Holloway Boy.
Despite being beautifully bred, by Kingman out of a dual-Listed winner for Juddmonte, Sir Michael Stoute's newcomer was sent off at 13/2 on debut at Sandown. Nostrum settled nicely under Ryan Moore and put the race to bed with the minimum of fuss, surging clear in the final two furlongs to beat a rival rated 90 and two future winners by three lengths.
Moore's mount gives away high-profile experience to his two main rivals. Yet, Nostrum showed at Sandown that he has the ability to win at this sort of level and he should have taken a big step forward following that debut outing.
Race 5 - Rose Bowl Stakes Tips
18+ only. T&Cs apply. Gamble responsibly.
Thunderous finished within a length of both Hamish and Stradivarius earlier in the season. The Johnston's five-year-old comes into this Listed race on the back of a solid run under top-weight in the Ebor and comfortably leads the way in the ratings.
That being said, like many runners from his stable, Thunderous can often throw in a howler of a performance, so I won't be backing the favourite at 10/11. Instead, I'll take Thunderous on with William Buick's mount, NATE THE GREAT.
Andrew Balding's six-year-old ran some excellent races earlier in the season, bolting up by seven lengths in a 14-furlong handicap here on the Rowley Mile before running Quickthorn close in the Henry II Stakes. Recent runs at a higher level haven't been so good, but Buick won't need to make the running on Thursday and Nate The Great should be a big player dropping back down to Listed class.
Verdict
Nostrum and Nate The Great are our Listed tips at Newmarket on Thursday.
