A quality card at Haydock on Saturday is headlined by the Sandy Lane Stakes. This six-furlong sprint has been used as a trial for the Commonwealth Cup, with Quiet Reflection and last year's winner, Inisherin scoring at Royal Ascot following a victory in this Group Two.

2025 Sandy Lane Stakes Runners

Symbol Of Honour ran out an impressive winner of the Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury last weekend, beating favourite Ides Of March by almost two lengths. Charlie Appleby's youngster is a gelding, meaning he cannot run in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, so Appleby has decided to roll the dice and target this Group Two, before moving into bigger targets later in the summer.

Big Mojo has the Commonwealth Cup on his agenda, having won the trial for that Royal Ascot race on his reappearance. Richard Fahey will be represented by the unbeaten Powerful Glory, who scored in the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury on his final juvenile start.

Arizona Blaze scored in a French Group Three when last seen, and will step up in class on Saturday. Ain't Nobody has ground to make on Big Mojo, having finished third behind that rival on his reappearance in the Pavilion Stakes.

William Haggas' First Instinct and the Crisford's Arabian Dusk will be getting weight from the colts and geldings. Dash Dizzy, Kullazain and Candy have also been confirmed in the field.

2025 Sandy Lane Stakes Tips

It's hard to know what impact the draw will have on this Group Two. Pace has been placed right across the track. Arizona Blaze will try to make all from stall one, but should have competition for the lead from Candy, while Dash Dizzy and Arabian Dusk will look to go forward from their wide draws.

Powerful Glory is a horse worth following, but Richard Fahey's runners have tended to need their first run this season. First Instinct is a likeable filly with a course-and-distance win to her name, but she faced some strapping colts here and a wide draw could prove problematic.

SYMBOL OF HONOUR (3/1) is the obvious answer. Charlie Appleby's gelding was hugely impressive when scoring at Newbury last weekend and the quick turnaround suggests that he must have come out of that Listed contest well.

Even over sprinting distances, stamina is important at Haydock Park. Symbol Of Honour went close over seven furlongs as a juvenile and has been doing his best work during the final furlong of all three of his victories this season.

William Buick's mount has fitness on his side and should have no trouble latching onto the most likely front-runner, Arizona Blaze from his low draw in stall three. Symbol Of Honour is entered in the Wokingham, but victory on Saturday could force connections to skip the Royal meeting completely, and aim for a tilt at the July Cup.
