2026 Aintree Bowl Tips - Poor turnout for Aintree's Gold Cup
The 2026 Aintree Bowl features a strong lineup with five declared runners, headlined by favorites like Jango Baie and Spillane's Tower. Jango Baie is the front-runner following a commendable performance in the Gold Cup, although concerns about fatigue linger. Spillane's Tower is contingent on softer ground, which is uncertain. Among the underdogs, Pic D'Orhy emerges as a value bet. Despite being 11 years old, recent performances suggest potential for an upset if top contenders falter. The race promises thrilling competition, with each participant having unique strengths.

2026 Aintree Bowl Runners
Only five horses have been declared for this year's Aintree Bowl - and not all of the quintet are certain runners. Heading the market is Jango Baie, who'll be looking to build on an excellent runner-up finish in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham.
Jimmy Mangan has opted to confirm Spillane's Tower for the Bowl instead of the Grand National, but he'll want some rain to fall before Thursday. Impaire Et Passe won the Manifesto Novices' Chase at Aintree last year, and Willie Mullins' star will be looking to bounce back after being pulled up in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham.
Protektorat skipped Cheltenham to focus on Aintree, following back-to-back wins at Windsor and Kelso. The fifth and final entrant is multiple Grade One winner Pic D'Orhy, who steps back up to three miles following a fine runner-up effort behind Jonbon at Ascot.
2026 Aintree Bowl Tips
On form, Jango Baie is the clear and obvious stand-out. However, Nicky Henderson's star had a hard race trying to track down Gaelic Warrior in the Gold Cup, and there's a chance that the race will have left it's mark.
Spillane's Tower needs softer ground to be at his best, and while there is some rain due to arrive on Thursday, I doubt it will have much impact on the current going description.
The overlooked contender here is PIC D'ORHY (20/1). Paul Nicholls' charge might be 11-years-old now, but on some of his form this season, he has to be in with a shout.
Pic D'Orhy hoisted the white flag quickly when thrashed by Jango Baie in the 1965 Chase at Ascot. Nicholls' charge was, however, only beaten a length by Djelo on his first start over three miles in the Charlie Hall Chase, and went down fighting as Jonbon won the Ascot Chase.
Harry Cobden's mount has form here at Aintree, having won the Melling Chase in 2023. Pic D'Orhy returns to Aintree fresh, having skipped the Cheltenham Festival again, and he should enjoy decent spring ground. If the big guns underperform, he's still running well enough to take advantage.
