ITV Racing fans have two Grade Ones to take in on Saturday, as the 2023 renewals of the Betfair Chase and Morgiana Hurdle are played out. Nine races will be shown on ITV on Saturday afternoon, with Ascot also featuring heavily on the schedule.
With Nicky Henderson's horses in such excellent early-season form, the stage looks set for PARK HILL DANCER (4/1) to make a winning reappearance.
Henderson's youngster won his novice hurdle at the fourth time of asking last season, before cruising to an easy victory on his handicap debut at Uttoxeter. Park Hill Dancer clocked an RPR of 123 without being asked any serious questions that day. He should be able to cope with a seven-pound rise.
1:30pm Ascot - 1965 Chase Tips
Shishkin takes on Pic D'Orhy in our opening ITV race at Ascot. It's a shame that we won't see Shishkin line up in the Betfair Chase, but this looks to be a much more sensible prep for the King George. Pic D'Orhy is a worthy adversary and he too could go on to the Christmas highlight at Kempton, should Saturday's reappearance go to plan.
I don't fancy getting involved with Shishkin at 4/6 and 7/4 isn't a good enough price for me to take him on with Pic D'orhy. Minella Drama and Straw Fan Jack are there for the day out. A no bet race for me.
1:50pm Haydock - Graduation Chase Tips
It's unusual to see a third-season chaser - who won a Grade One last season and placed in a Grand National - running in a Graduation Chase, but that's what we're faced with in Gaillard Du Mesnil. Willie Mullins' raider brings by far the best form to that table. I just worry that those gruelling battles in the National Hunt Chase and the National may have left their mark on the favourite and this 21-and-a-half furlong trip could be a little on the sharp side.
Gaillard Du Mesnil has to give stacks of weight to Apple Away, who makes her chasing debut. GREY DAWNING (9/4) will also be getting 11 pounds from the market leader and he's sure to have come on for last month's chasing debut at Exeter.
Dan Skelton's grey travelled kindly in that three-mile contest, but a tendency to jump left proved costly as Stay Away Fay battled back to claim victory. Switching to a left-handed track should suit and Grey Dawning produced his best hurdles performances over this distance.
2:05pm Ascot - Ascot Hurdle Tips
Despite his propensity to throw in an absolute worldie of a performance, Goshen's inconsistency is something I've never got on board with. I'm keen to take the market leader on and quite fancy a romantic wager on the old boy in the field, SCEAU ROYAL (5/1).
Alan King's teenager clearly doesn't have the pace for the minimum distance any more, as his reappearance at Kempton proved. Sceau Royal ran very well behind Brewin'Upastorm when second in the National Spirit Hurdle over this distance in February and, given his impressive form around similar right-handed tracks, Ascot could be a course that plays to his strengths.

2:20pm Haydock - Stayers' Handicap Hurdle Tips
I'm a big fan of Crambo and Slate Lane is clearly a danger. There are, however, a couple who catch my eye at much more tempting prices, including the progressive Goshhowposh - whose price has collapsed since Thursday.
SANTOS BLUE (16/1) rattled off a handicap hurdle hat-trick last season, despite showing little in any of his novice hurdle starts. Dan Skelton's six-year-old ran a cracker behind the talented Broadway Boy on his final start of last season at Cheltenham and shaped with plenty of promise behind Crambo on his reappearance at Aintree - where Ben Sutton dropped his stick two furlongs from home.
Like many of Skelton's horses this season, Santos Blue is expected to improve for that return to action and Sutton's claimer leaves him shouldering just 10-7. I really fancy him to run well.

3:15pm Ascot - Jim Barry Hurst Park Handicap Chase Tips
Boothill bids for back-to-back victories at Ascot, having run away with an identical race to this three weeks ago. Harry Fry's star was slapped with a six-pound rating hike for that victory, meaning he'll have to give plenty of weight to several dangerous rivals.
FRERE D'ARMES (11/2) jumped poorly for the majority of that contest, but looked to be travelling best approaching the second-last, only to run out of steam in the closing stages. As I've already stated twice during this article, Dan Skelton's horses seem to have needed their first starts of the season and Frere D'Armes is 13 pounds better off at the weights with Boothill, meaning he'll be getting almost two stone from the market leader.
3:35pm Haydock - Handicap Chase Tips
All of the last seven winners of this handicap have returned an SP of 6/1 or shorter and a strong case can be made for current market leader, FAMOUS BRIDGE (3/1).
Nicky Richards' seven-year-old earmarked himself as a progressive staying chaser to follow with two handicap victories at Wetherby last March. Famous Bridge was involved in a thrilling finish on his comeback run at Ayr, where he looked a little outpaced throughout that two-and-a-half miles contest. Stepping up in distance will certainly suit and there looks to be plenty of wiggle-room left in his mark.
