The final Classic of the season takes place at Doncaster on Saturday, as eight colts enter the 2024 St Leger. ITV Racing viewers will enjoy four races live from Doncaster on St Leger day, as well as two competitive races from Chester.

Here are my best betting tips at Doncaster and Chester on Saturday.

ITV Racing Tips - Saturday 14th September

1:50pm Doncaster - Champagne Stakes Tips

Chancellor tops the market, following a front-running maiden success here at Doncaster last month. Righthere Rightnow and Bay City Roller have won their maidens from the front too, having both been a little too keen in the early stages, so the Gosden's favourite won't have an easy time of things if he attempts to make all again.

WOLF OF BADENOCH (4/1) came from well off the pace to make a winning debut under Jamie Spencer over this course-and-distance. Hugo Palmer's juvenile was held up again in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood and, while Aomori City was a little more professional on the day, Wolf Of Badenoch made eye-catching late gains to finish second.

That runner-up finish is comfortably the best piece of form on offer and the race should be run to suit. Spencer will fancy his chances.

2:05pm Chester - Stand Cup Tips

Heavy ground will suit La Yakel, but whether the course will suit this heavy, powerful gelding is another question. AL QAREEM (5/2) seemed to enjoy the challenges posed by Chester when winning this race 12 months ago, holding firm in the closing stages to repel Bluestocking - who has proven herself to be a Group One filly this season.

Karl Burke's gelding has run well in several high-profile races this term, placing in the John Porter, the John Smith's Silver Cup and the Geoffrey Freer. Coming back to Chester for this Listed contest seems like a sensible plan and Al Qareem has won on bottomless ground before.

2:25pm Doncaster - Portland Handicap Tips

The bookmakers are currently offering 10/1 the field in this sprint handicap, so they clearly have no idea which way it will go. This kind of race isn't my cup of tea, so I'll be having a small each-way punt on one of the outsiders, DESERT COP (33/1).

Andrew Balding's four-year-old landed a big pot at Newmarket earlier in the season, scoring off a mark of 94. Since then, Desert Cop has run well in defeat several times without managing to make the places. He'll enter this wide-open race running off a mark of 92 and five-and-a-half furlongs could prove to be his ideal trip.

2:40pm Chester - Watergate Cup Tips

With the ground at Chester as treacherous as it is, and this field of stayers looking very tightly-matched, I'm happy to leave this one alone.

3:00pm Doncaster - Park Stakes Tips

Three-year-olds haven't got a great record in this Group Two, but both Lead Artist and Lake Forest hold strong claims. Kinross hasn't been at his best this season, but Ralph Beckett's star is far too classy to be ruled out.

At a price, I'm going to gamble on SHOULDVEBEENARING (25/1), despite a poor showing in the Sprint Cup last weekend. The team were open about that Group One being his target for the season, so they will have been disappointed to see Sean Levey's mount get badly outpaced before staying on to at least beat four horses home.

That wasn't the first time when six furlongs has seemed too sharp for Shouldvebeenaring. Richard Hannon's star won the King Charles II Stakes over this seven-furlong trip at Newmarket last term and shaped well when third in the City Of York Stakes last month. Shouldvebeenaring will have been at peak fitness for last Saturday's assignment and he's clearly come out of the race in good shape.
