One of the least-experienced runners in the Hollywoodbets Durban July field is Flag Man, who enjoyed a stunning rise to prominence this season.

Gareth van Zyl moved quickly to purchase this Flying The Flag gelding following a maiden victory in the autumn. Flag Man won his first two starts for van Zyl, scoring in a handicap before a Middle Stakes win at Greyville.

On his first start in any Group race, Flag Man pushed the favourite for Saturday's Durban July, Green With Envy all the way to the line in the Daily News 2000. Serino Moodley's mount went into that key trial rated just 98, but left Greyville with a huge new mark of 126.

Flag Man will again be ridden by Serino Moodley and will carry a weight of 55.5kg. Van Zyl's three-year-old will be number 17 on your scorecard, having been drawn wide in stall 17, and will wear the all-royal blue silks of owners Nestadt, Barnard and McClean.
