ITV Racing Tips - Saturday 15th July

Race 1 - Heritage Handicap Tips

I quite fancy two eight-year-olds in this top-quality contest. EQUILATERAL (11/1) enters a handicap on British soil for the first time, following two runner-up finishes in pattern races at Haydock and a good fifth in the Kings' Stand Stakes. Charlie Hills' sprinter is two-from-two in handicaps at Meydan and Rohaan's presence leaves Equilateral shouldering just 9-8.

ARECIBO (14/1) has plenty of previous around Ascot, having finished second in the 2019 Rous Stakes and second again behind Oxted in the 2021 King's Stand. Despite a 16 pound drop down the handicap over the last two years, Robert Cowell's star has been running well this season, finishing second twice and third at Sandown last time out. The in-form Jim Crowley comes in for the ride on Saturday and Arecibo is certainly well-handicapped running off this mark.

Race 2 - John Smith's Racing Handicap Tips

Having claimed a confidence-boosting victory at Doncaster last time out, I can see 2021 winner LA TRINIDAD (9/1) mounting another challenge. Roger Fell's six-year-old had gone 12 races without a win prior to that emphatic triumph at Doncaster. La Trinidad won this off a mark of 89 two years ago and I doubt whether this fresh mark of 94 is beyond him.

Race 3 - Summer Mile Stakes Tips

With plenty of rain forecast on Friday and thunderstorms due on Saturday morning, the going at Ascot will likely ease in favour of ALDAARY (4/1).

0-4 on good ground or quicker, Aldaary has won six times in seven outings where the word soft or heavy has featured in the going description. William Haggas' star won the Balmoral Handicap here at Ascot on Champions Day 2021 and Aldaary is sure to strip fitter for his return to action in the Criterion Stakes two weeks ago.

Race 4 - City Walls Stakes Tips

Another who will relish the deluge of rain that's due to hit all parts of the UK this weekend is GREAT STATE (9/1). Richard Fahey's three-year-old made a winning turf debut on soft ground at Thirsk in May, before bolting up in the Westow Stakes over this course-and-distance.

Oisin Orr's mount never really looked comfortable on fast ground in the Scurry Stakes at Sandown and did well just to finish a close third under a penalty. Great State is a proven winner on the Knavesmire and on juicy ground, and Fahey's rising star will be getting weight from the older sprinters around him in the market.

Race 5 - bet365 Mile Handicap Tips

On breeding alone, HAVANA BLUE (9/2) isn't a guaranteed stayer over a mile. Yet, everything Clive Cox's star has shown on his last two starts suggests he'll have no trouble seeing out the extra furlong.

Havana Blue survived trouble in running to win well on the Rowley Mile in May, before securing another impressive handicap triumph here on the July course two weeks ago. Havana Blue's progress shows no signs of slowing down and Cox has managed to book Ryan Moore to take the ride on Saturday.

Race 6 - John Smith's Cup Tips

This year's John Smith's Cup looks typically open and packed full of quality. It often pays to side with runners at longer prices in this handicap and I'm keen on the chances of HAUNTED DREAM (16/1).

Ed Dunlop's four-year-old has won four of his six starts on the all-weather, but has still only registered one victory on turf. Haunted Dream did, however, run a screamer on his latest effort at Sandown, where he was forced to burst through traffic and finished with a wet sail to place second behind Lord Protector. Clifford Lee's mount is only two pounds higher in the handicap for that sterling effort and I see no reason why Haunted Dream can't mount a winning challenge.

Race 7 - Superlative Stakes Tips

When an Aidan O'Brien juvenile wins first time out, you better sit up and take notice. CITY OF TROY (11/8) was well-backed going into his maiden at the Curragh two weeks ago and O'Brien's newcomer produced a dominant performance to win by over two lengths.

Ryan Moore's mount had no trouble seeing out seven furlongs that day, putting in his best work over the final two furlongs of that contest. I suspect the favourite will be very difficult to beat.

Race 8 - Silver Cup Stakes Tips

As will HAMISH (4/6), once the forecast rain seeps into the ground up at York. William Haggas' seven-year-old looked as good as ever when winning the Ormonde Stakes on his sole start so far this season.

Haggas cherry-picks the right assignments for Hamish, only running him when the ground is suitable. If the favourite runs, he'll probably win.

Race 9 - Bunbury Cup Tips

The booking of Ryan Moore ticks another box for BIGGLES (8/1), who already boasted strong claims in Saturday's feature handicap. Ralph Beckett's six-year-old ran well to place in two high-profile handicaps earlier in the season and was last seen finishing ninth from a terrible low draw in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Two of Biggles' three turf victories have come with cut in the ground. Horses drawn high have a good record in this handicap too, so everything points towards another strong effort from Ryan Moore's mount.

I'm also going to have a risky punt on LETHAL LEVI (20/1), as Karl Burke's four-year-old steps up to seven furlongs for just the second time in his career.

Lethal Levi took a liking to the July Course last season, winning the three-year-old Heritage Handicap on day one of this meeting, before following in a similar contest two weeks later. Burke's four-year-old remains in good form, having gone close at Newcastle and York in recent starts. If Lethal Levi sees out the trip, then Lethal Levi represents plenty of value at 20/1.
