The final day of racing at the July Meeting is headlined by one of the most important sprint races staged in Britain, the July Cup. This Group One was first staged back in 1876 and has been won by sprinting royalty like Ormonde, Sundridge, Abernant, Right Boy and Moorestyle.

2023 July Cup Entries
The July Cup provides three-year-old sprinters with a first opportunity to take on the older horses and it's the younger generation who dominate this betting heat. Shaquille overcome a trouble start to beat Little Big Bear in the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot and they currently top the July Cup market.
Improving mare Azure Blue is the highest-place older horse in the July Cup betting. Ralph Beckett's multiple Group One winner Kinross could also remain at six furlongs. As will Khaadem, following his surprise victory in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Former Sprint Cup winner Emaraaty Ana and the consistent Run To Freedom take up their entries, along with Art Power and Vadream.
2023 July Cup Tips
Three-year-olds have won just over a third of the renewals of the July Cup this century, so backing the older age ground is often the way to go. Yet, I find myself focussing on the two younger horses, as you can poke significant holes in the rest of the field.
Azure Blue has never been tried at Group One level and I don't like the fact that she's been off the track for 60 days. Kinross is at his best over seven furlongs on soft ground, and he found a quick six too sharp at Royal Ascot.
Khaadem only seems able to produce one magical performance per season and I fear he had that at Royal Ascot. Art Power saves his best for the Curragh, Emaraaty Ana is too inconsistent to be trusted, Run To Freedom isn't classy enough and Vadream wants very soft ground.
Process of elimination leaves me with SHAQUILLE and Little Big Bear. I tipped Julie Camacho's star against Little Big Bear at Royal Ascot, so I was delighted when Shaquille flew home from the rear and saw off the odds-on favourite on the run to the line.
Aidan O'Brien said it was touch-and-go whether Little Big Bear would run, given that he missed six days of training following Royal Ascot. Shaquille, on the other hand, hasn't missed a beat since that Commonwealth Cup triumph - according to Camacho - and being drawn down in stall nine shouldn't cause him too many problems.
With Oisin Murphy suspended and James Doyle riding at Ascot, Rossa Ryan has been presented with an excellent opportunity to ride his Group One winner. I'm hoping Shaquille can deliver Ryan that landmark success.
Verdict
Shaquille is our best bet in the 2023 July Cup.
