What is British Champions Day?
British Champions Day is one of the biggest events on the British Flat racing calendar, bringing many of Europe's leading horses, trainers and jockeys together at Ascot Racecourse every October. First staged in 2011, the meeting has developed into a prestigious end-of-season spectacle, with more than £4 million in prize money available across a programme of top-class racing.
Five Group One races feature on the British Champions Day card, covering distances from six furlongs to two miles. The Champion Stakes and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes are two of the headline attractions, while the Champions Sprint, Fillies & Mares Stakes and Long Distance Cup give leading horses in other divisions the opportunity to compete for major prizes.
British Champions Day also marks the conclusion of the British Flat Jockeys' Championship, with the Champion Jockey crowned at Ascot. The Champion Trainer title is another prestigious honour associated with the British racing season, although that championship is decided by prize money earned throughout the calendar year.
With championship titles at stake, huge crowds in attendance and many of the season's biggest stars competing, British Champions Day provides a fitting climax to the main British Flat racing season.
