Queen Anne Stakes History
Established in 1840 as the Trial Stakes, it was renamed in honour of Queen Anne in 1930.
The Queen Anne Stakes was awarded Group 1 status in 2003. Dubai Destination was the first winner at Group 1 level.
The Queen Anne Stakes has been targeted by the major stables, including Henry Cecil, Luca Cumani and Saeed bin Suroor. Scoring the first Group 1 of the festival is important for the major stables.
Sir Michael Stoute and the aforementioned trainers have dominated the Queen Anne Stakes. Saeed bin Suroor has won the race seven times and Sir Henry Cecil won the race on four straight occasions in the 1980's.
Sir Gordon Richards is the most successful jockey, scoring six wins in the early 20th century. That was matched by Frankie Dettori, who scored most recently with Ramonti in 2007.
There have been four two-time winners but not for over 100 years.
Frankel won by 11 lengths in one of the most dominant victories of all time. The win came over rivals Excelebration, Side Glance and Strong Suit, which would have competed well in any Group 1 field.

In 2020, Circus Maximus followed up on his St James's Palace Stakes win the previous season with a hard-fought victory over Terebellum in the Queen Anne Stakes.

The good record of favourites was evident in 2015 when Solow won at 11/8. The popular runner scored comfortably by a length and there were some big bets landed on the world-class thoroughbred.
Toronado won in 2014 as the favourite.. The Richard Hannon-trained runner was odds-on with bookmakers and punters were left happy after the first race of the festival.
Frankel was the shortest-priced winner in history when scoring at odds of 1/10 in 2012.
