The 2026 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot delivered a thrilling surprise as Ten Bob Tony, priced at 50/1, surged from the back to clinch victory under Kieran Shoemark. More Thunder finished strongly to grab second, while Opera Ballo held on for third after leading much of the race. Notable Speech, the pre-race favorite, faded late for a disappointing sixth-place finish. The race showcased tactical riding and upsets, emphasizing the unpredictability of top-level flat racing.

Royal Ascot 2026 kicked off with the Queen Anne Stakes, where Notable Speech was looking to build on his excellent victory in the Lockinge Stakes.

Charlie Appleby's star renewed rivalries with More Thunder, who was well-backed in the Royal Ascot betting following a solid second at Newbury. Opera Ballo joined stablemate Notable Speech in the field, and Billy Loughnane took the ride on Appleby's second-string.

Docklands trumped Rosallion to win this race 12 months ago, and Harry Eustace's star returned to defend his crown. Zeus Olympios and Damysus were beaten when fancied in the Lockinge, and both were available at fairly big prices.

Cicero's Gift returned a lengthy price when winning the QEII here at Ascot in October. Charlie Hills' star was available at 50/1 before the off, with First Conquest and Ten Bob Tony available at similar prices.

Charlie Appleby was keen to set a fairly strong pace for Notable Speech to aim at. Billy Loughnane bounced out quickly aboard Opera Ballo, with Ryan Moore also prominent on Godolphin's third string, First Conquest.

Notable Speech settled in midfield, alongside More Thunder, who slotted in from his wide draw. Cicero's Gift sat prominently, with Damysus and Zeus Olympios in the second rank. Docklands took his customary position at the rear of the field, alongside Ten Bob Tony, whose rider was content to bide his time.

Ryan Moore was the first to come under pressure, as First Conquest failed to keep up with the gallop set by Opera Ballo. Notable Speech tried to latch onto his stablemate's coattails, while More Thunder and Zeus Olympios began to jostle for position.

Opera Ballo still held a comfortable lead going into the final furlong. Notable Speech seemed to be treading water, as Tom Marquand finally asked More Thunder for his effort.

Suddenly, Kieran Shoemark and Ten Bob Tony loomed into contention. Less than two weeks after his Group Three win at Epsom, Ed Walker's star powered into the lead, edging ahead of Opera Ballo in the strides before the line. Shoemark saluted the crowd as his mount returned an SP of 50/1.

More Thunder flew home to challenge and eventually finished second ahead of Opera Ballo, who ran a cracker from the front. Notable Speech disappointed on the Royal stage once again, finishing sixth behind Zeus Olympios and Damysus.
