2024 Royal Ascot Tips - Four Ante-Post Selections

Now that the Epsom Derby Festival has concluded, horse racing enthusiasts turn their attention to the 2024 Royal Ascot. Although the author has grown wary of ante-post betting due to tighter odds, they highlight four Royal Ascot entrants poised to perform well. Key selections include Inspiral for the Queen Anne Stakes, Auguste Rodin for the Prince of Wales's Stakes, Jasour for the Commonwealth Cup, and Isle of Jura for the Hardwicke Stakes.

Now that the Epsom Derby Festival has come and gone, attentions turn to Ascot ahead of the 2024 Royal meeting.

I've fallen a little out of love with ante-post betting over the past year. Bookmakers are taking no chances with their early prices, meaning there's nothing to be gained from backing outsiders, as you'll most likely get better prices and more places once the fields have been confirmed.

That being said, I've found four Royal Ascot entrants who I'm confident will go off at shorter prices on the day and all four have an excellent chance of winning their respective races. Here are my Royal Ascot ante-post selections.

2024 Royal Ascot Ante-Post Tips


18/6/24 2:30pm - Queen Anne Stakes Tips


Last month's Lockinge Stakes proved that our current crop of milers is fairly average. Facteur Cheval is the favourite for the Queen Anne Stakes with most firms, having won the Dubai Turf at odds of 20/1. That meeting is renowned for surprise results and Jerome Reynier's five-year-old has only won once in nine starts in Group company on European soil.

As soon as John Gosden delivers a positive bulletin on INSPIRAL (5/1), she will jump to the head of the betting. Gosden didn't fancy her chances from a horrible draw in the Lockinge and, after watching his mare finish a distant fourth behind stablemate Audience, he told the press that she would have needed the run.

Inspiral bolted up on her reappearance in the Coronation Stakes in 2022 and was touched off by Triple Time on her return to action in this race 12 months ago. Neither the Gosden, nor their new stable jockey Kieran Shoemark have enjoyed the first few months of this flat season. I'm expecting their fortunes to change in time for the Royal meeting.

19/6/24 4:25pm - Prince Of Wales's Stakes Tips


Now, I know Sir Michael Stoute is a genius, particularly with older horse. That being said, how on earth is Passenger as short as 9/4 for the Prince Of Wales's Stakes? Stoute's star laboured to victory in a Group Three on his final three-year-old start, and his win in the Huxley Stakes - beating a stayer in Israr and a nine-year-old Regal Reality - is not even close to top-level form.

White Birch would be a much more deserving favourite. John Murphy's four-year-old won the Alleged and Mooresbridge Stakes, before putting AUGUSTE RODIN (6/1) to the sword with a fine performance in the Tattersalls Gold Cup.

Going into that Group One, it was clear that Aidan O'Brien had Royal Ascot at the forefront of his thoughts for Auguste Rodin, so I was surprised he ran as well as he did. That outing at the Curragh should put Ryan Moore's mount spot on for the Prince Of Wales's Stakes and a reproduction of any of his three Group One wins from 2023 would be enough.

21/6/24 3:05pm - Commonwealth Cup Tips


Inisherin looked superb when winning the Sandy Lane Stakes. As did Elite Status, when he returned with a bang in the Carnarvon Stakes. Vandeek and River Tiber are sure to improve for their seasonal reappearances and either could end up becoming the favourite for this intriguing renewal of the Commonwealth Cup.

Then there's JASOUR (10/1), who ran out a convincing winner of the Commonwealth Cup Trial on his reappearance. Clive Cox's star was sent off at 9/1 that day, but asserted in the manner of an odds-on favourite to beat Adaay In Devon by almost two lengths.

Jasour produced a similarly dominant performance when winning the July Stakes as a two-year-old, and his two flops in Group One company afterwards can easily be written off. Jim Crowley's mount is a proven Group winner over this course-and-distance and faster ground would be to his advance.

22/6/24 3:45pm - Hardwicke Stakes Tips


Aidan O'Brien has earmarked this Group Two as a target for the returning Continuous, who should be taken on, given how most of his stablemates have needed their first starts of the season. Tower Of London and Point Lonsdale could join stablemate Continuous in the field, while Middle Earth and Emily Upjohn are possible runners for the Gosdens.

I like the chances of ISLE OF JURA (12/1), who has improved massively for a winter trip to Bahrain. George Scott's star won four of his five starts in the Middle East, including an impressive triumph over the Hardwicke Stakes trip on his final Bahrain outing in March.

Isle Of Jura continued that winning run on his return to Britain, as Callum Shepherd's mount powered home from the rear to win the Festival Stakes at Goodwood. That win came at a time when Scott's turf runners were out of form and stepping back up in distance at Royal Ascot could see Isle Of Jura progress to a whole new level.
