1000 Guineas history
The 1000 Guineas was first run in 1814 when the Bill Clift-trained Charlotte was successful.
Trainer Robert Robson, who raced horses for the 4th Duke of Grafton, dominated the race in the early editions.
The pair won nine 1000 Guineas' in 10 years before the run came to an end in 1828 when Bobby Pettit won with Zoe.
In more recent times the 1000 Guineas has been taken out by the big breeding barns. Coolmore Stud, Godolphin, Ballymore and other leading UAE-operated studs have taken top honours.
The team of Magnier, Tabor and Smith won the 1000 Guineas in 2015, 2016 and 2017. The Coolmore team sets their fillies for the 1000 Guineas and they're tough to beat come May at Newmarket.
Interestingly, the 1000 Guineas was named according to its original prize fund. The race was initially worth 1000 Guineas, which is where the Guineas name originates.
1000 Guineas betting guide
There has been a good mix of favourites and longshots win the 1000 Guineas, which is great for bettors of all levels.
This is mostly because the field sizes for the 1000 Guineas are large compared to some other Group 1 races in the UK, with most Guineas' fields attracting between 15 and 17 runners.
Bookmakers are forced to offer better odds due to the size of the fields and bettors have been able to cash in recently.

Tontine won in 1825, but she didn't have to face a rival. The race was run in a walkover, which pales in comparison to the biggest field which featured 29 runners in 1926.
1000 Guineas lead-up races
The 1000 Guineas features many lead-up races, but the Fred Darling Stakes (1408m) and the Nell Gwyn Stakes (1408m) are the most popular.
Much like the 2000 Guineas, many of the top-performed fillies run fresh up in the 1000 Guineas, which can be used as a trial for the Oaks later in the season.
