The 2026 Goodwood Cup delivered high drama, with defending champion Scandinavia securing a convincing victory. Following a closely watched rematch with Trawlerman, the race was shaken up when Amiloc's erratic early movement unseated his jockey and disrupted the field, especially hampering Trawlerman. This allowed Scandinavia, ridden by Ryan Moore, to seize control and power home for an eight-length victory. The win confirms Scandinavia’s dominance in staying races, with Trawlerman finishing second and Rahiebb third.

A sensational opening day of racing at Glorious Goodwood was headlined by a Royal Ascot rematch in the Goodwood Cup.
Scandinavia got the better of Trawlerman in a blockbuster battle in the Ascot Gold Cup. Aidan O'Brien's star was backed into firm favouritism ahead of the defence of his Goodwood Cup crown, but many fancied Trawlerman's chances of reversing that Ascot form, and William Buick's mount was well-backed before the off.
Amiloc stepped up to two miles for the first time following a sixth-place finish in an excellent Hardwicke Stakes, and Ralph Beckett's runner was cut into a single-figure price on the morning of the race. Yorkshire Cup winner Rahiebb was bidding to bounce back after a poor effort in the Ascot Gold Cup.
Charlie Johnston was represented by recent Sandown winner Lazy Griff. Illinois joined stablemate Scandinavia in the field for a second season in a row. Trawlerman's stablemate French Master also featured in the field, with Ascot Gold Cup fifth Miss Alpilles rounding off the field.

Coming out of the stalls, Amiloc jinked right and Hector Crouch was thrown to the ground. Lazy Griff went forward, with Scandinavia for company. Trawlerman was kept wide in the early stages, but crossed over onto the rail on the first bend and settled behind the loose-running Amiloc at the head of the field.
Scandinavia moved forward to keep tabs on the front-running Trawlerman. Lazy Griff was still very keen after half a mile. Illinois settled in fourth alongside Rahiebb. Miss Alpilles and French Master sat at the rear of the field.
With six furlongs to travel, Trawlerman and Scandinavia opened up a three-length lead. William Buick decided to turn on the taps early, opening up a lead on Scandinavia as the field entered the straight. Ryan Moore then got to work on the market leader, and Scandinavia attempted to gather in his great rival.
Just when it seemed like viewers at Goodwood were in for another bruising fight between the top two, Amiloc decided to cause more havoc. Amiloc drifted across onto the inside rail, and badly hampered Trawlerman. William Buick was forced to snatch his mount up to regain his stride, which allowed Scandinavia to stride into an unassailable lead.
Buick attempted to roust a response from Trawlerman, but soon gave up the ghost as Ryan Moore's mount powered into an eight-length lead. Scandinavia powered on remorselessly, retaining his Goodwood Cup crown in emphatic style.
Trawlerman crossed the line in second, with Rahiebb seeing out the trip well to finish third. French Master and Miss Alpilles kept on pretty well. Illinois barely showed anything, and Lazy Griff was virtually pulled up, having pulled far too hard in the early stages.
