Royal Ascot 2025 Day 5 Tips
2:30pm Ascot - Chesham Stakes Tips
If this week is anything to go by, then it will be Coolmore or Godolphin who wins Saturday's opener. Moments Of Joy was the second-string when she won on debut, and Aidan O'Brien's filly will get weight from the field. Treanmor cost Godolphin over £2m and looked high-class when scoring on debut at Newmarket.
As my tips haven't gone to plan during this Royal Ascot, I'm going to kick off my selections with a real Hail Mary, and back TAILGUNNER JOE (100/1) at a triple-figure price. Dylan Cunha's colt is one of two newcomers in the field, both of whom will be hoping to emulate Holloway Boy - who won this race on debut in 2022.
Tailgunner Joe is US-bred. He'll be the first progeny of recent Breeders' Cup Classic winner Knicks Go to race in Europe, and he's a half-brother to George Weaver's classy mare Sacred Wish, who was also a Group One winner on US soil. Cunha is no mug when it comes to training juveniles and his two two-year-old runners this week have performed well at massive prices. I'm happy to take this chance.
3:05pm Ascot - Hardwicke Stakes Tips
Having taken down a Godolphin hot-pot earlier in the season, I'm backing BELLUM JUSTUM (20/1) against Rebel's Romance here.
Andrew Balding's colt got the better of Silver Knott when the two met in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket. PJ McDonald's mount saw off the odds-on favourite to claim his first victory over a mile-and-a-half, and he won't carry a penalty for that Group Two success on Saturday.
Bellum Justum was well-beaten behind Jan Brueghel on his most recent start on softish ground in the Coronation Cup, but got within a neck of that rival when they met on more favourable ground in last season's Gordon Stakes. Balding's colt placed behind two classy operators when third in the Hampton Court Stakes 12 months ago, and the rest of his form on fast ground is high-class.

This doesn't seem like a particularly high-quality renewal of the Jersey Stakes, and COMANCHE BRAVE (9/2) has the opportunity to build on a promising effort in the Irish 2000 Guineas.
Donnacha O'Brien's colt took his chance in that Classic, having given Henri Matisse a run for his money in the trial at Leopardstown. Comanche Brave travelled nicely into contention, but was bumped around when sandwiched between two runners at the two pole, and could only stay on to finish fifth as Field Of Gold romped to victory.
This son of Wootton Bassett is at his best on fast ground and his draw in stall six should be fine. With none of his father's runners in the field, Ryan Moore takes the ride and Donnacha's strike rate at the Royal Meeting is excellent.

5:00pm Ascot - Wokingham Stakes Handicap Tips
The high draw bias that governs the straight course handicaps earlier in the week doesn't always play out in the Wokingham. Plenty of horses have won from lowish stalls, with Unequal Love even scoring from stall one 12 months ago.
Stall 14 could prove to be ideal for COMPLETELY RANDOM (16/1), who loves to be aimed at a fast past. They crawled along early on his most recent outing at Newbury, and Harry Charlton's sprinter was squeezed for room as he tried to open up and catch Aramram and Run Boy Run, who were at the front throughout.
Callum Rodriquez's mount showed his pace with a five-furlong victory at Southwell in April, and followed up in the King Richard III Cup at Leicester. Completely Random is proven on faster ground and has front-running types like Get It and Germanic drawn nearby to bring him into the race.
So far, it's been a poor meeting for Karl Burke, with two third-placed finishes the best his horses have been able to muster. He'll be represented by KORKER (28/1) here, and I wouldn't be shocked to see this classy six-year-old go close from stall 24.
Seven-pound claimer, Jack Nicholls has ridden Korker on his two most recent starts. Burke's sprinter, as he usually does, was very slowly away but stayed on to finish third on both occasions, clocking RPRs of 108 and 110. Korker is no stranger to challenging in large-field handicaps off this sort of mark and he does have some decent Ascot form to his name. Even a modest start could see him well placed to challenge.

I've backed Seraph Gabriel at 10/1 for this handicap ante-post, as he's clearly been laid out for it. Yet, Ralph Beckett's horses have been running so poorly for the last six weeks or so, I can't bring myself to put the market leader up at 7/2.
William Buick, the Gosdens and Wathnan Racing have enjoyed a terrific week and all three combine here with ERNST BLOFELD (10/1). A winner on his second all-weather start at Kempton, this Frankel colt was too keen when third on his turf debut in the Listed Newmarket Stakes, and stayed on to finish fourth when making his handicap debut in the London Gold Cup.
John & Thady Gosden's three-year-old over-raced again in the early stages at Newbury, so I'm not surprised to see cheek-pieces go on for this assignment. Ernst Blofeld is nicely bred and, when he learns to settle, he's open to plenty of further improvement.
6:10pm Ascot - Queen Alexandra Stakes Tips
Sober should win a low-key card-closer to Britain's best horse racing festival. Willie Mullins' recruit was a Group Two winner on the flat in France and made a winning start over hurdles for new connections last month.
With Ryan Moore in the saddle, the odds-on favourite should deliver. I, however, won't be backing any horse at odds-on at Royal Ascot, so I'll be leaving the finale well alone.
