Daryz attempted to become the first colt since Alleged to win back-to-back Prix de l’Arc de Triomphes this afternoon. Francis-Henri Graffard's star was very strong at the head of the betting, and when the gates opened, Daryz had been backed into 6/4.
Kalpana was returning for her second crack at the Arc, having finished seventh from a wide draw last season. The leading three-year-old in the market was Epsom Oaks winner Thundering On, with Maltese Cross and Varandir also sitting prominently in the betting.
Aidan O'Brien's trio of Benvenuto Cellini, Diamond Necklace and Minnie Hauk were fairly weak in the market. The supplemented Friendly Soul came in for each-way support, along with the first of the two Japanese raiders, Meisho Tabaru.
Bay City Roller and Saddadd were unfancied, despite enjoying Group One success this term. Admire Terra joined countryman Meisho Tabaru in the stalls. Bright Light, Arrow Eagle and Chestnut Rocket completed the line-up for the 2026 Arc.

| 3rd | Diamond Necklace | 10/1 |

James Doyle made all to win the Prix Vermeille aboard Friendly Soul, so it was no surprise to see the Gosdens' mare bounce out and make the early running. Yutaka Take went forward aboard Meisho Tabaru from their wide stall. Bay City Roller broke well from his wide draw too and helped set the early fractions.
Kalpana settled nicely on the rail, with Maltese Cross travelling powerfully on the outside of the field. Benvenuto Cellini was one of the slowest into stride under Ryan Moore, as Diamond Necklace slotted in at the rear from the widest stall of all.
Thundering On took her customary position near the rear of the field. Daryz and Varandir travelled alongside each other towards the back of the pack. Bright Light had to be ridden along after two furlongs, as he struggled to lie up with the pace.
Heading into the bend, Meisho Tabaru established a clear lead. Bay City Roller slotted in behind the pacemaker, with Friendly Soul in third. Christophe Soumillon decided to make an early move aboard Diamond Necklace, advancing from the rear into the second rank as the field straightened up for home.
Meisho Tabaru soon gave way, but Bay City Roller showed no signs of wilting. Friendly Soul was boxing on along the rail. Diamond Necklace kept herself in contention. Kalpana, meanwhile, got a little outpaced on the bend and was forced to dart towards the inside to make her challenge.
Suddenly, Daryz burst onto the scene. Mickael Barzalona's mount scythed his way through the field and soon had the leaders in his crosshairs.
Daryz took control of the race with a furlong to travel, and the contest was pretty much over. Graffard and his team celebrated jubilantly as Daryz made history, becoming just the ninth horse to win back-to-back Arcs.
Bay City Roller and Diamond Necklace ran fantastic races from their wide draws, finishing second and third respectively. Friendly Soul was fourth, ahead of Kalpana, who never really featured. Maltese Cross and Thundering On were next to pass the post, followed by Varandir, who simply couldn't match his stablemate's turn of foot.
Daryz produced a simply incredible performance, eclipsing his victory in the race 12 months ago. Graffard seemed to intimate that Daryz would be retired following his second Arc victory. Bay City Roller, meanwhile, will head on to the Champion Stakes at Ascot, with Diamond Necklace destined for the Breeders' Cup.
