Green With Envy is the favourite after winning the WSB Guineas

Green With Envy has jumped to the head of the 2024 Durban July betting, following a second Grade One success at Greyville.

After last Saturday's card at Greyville was abandoned due to crowd trouble, the 2024 WSB Guineas took place on Wednesday this week. Sandringham Summit carried an odds-on price into Wednesday's feature, the Green With Envy a well-backed second-favourite.

Craig Zackey held his mount up well behind the early pace. As the front-running Snow Pilot gave way, Sandringham Summit moved into a position to challenge. Green With Envy tracked the favourite's move and swooped to the front in the strides before the line.

Dean Kannemeyer's star three-year-old hadn't been seen since an impressive victory in the Cape Derby at Kenilworth in February. Green With Envy will likely improve for that victory in the WSB Guineas and could take in the Daily News 2000 before heading back to Greyville for the Durban July.

Prior to Wednesday's Guineas, Green With Envy was a 6/1 shot for the Durban July, sitting two placed behind favourite See It Again. Following that victory, Kannemeyer's three-year-old was cut into favouritism for South Africa's most famous race, with race sponsors Hollywoodbets now offering a best price of 5/2.
