South African Horse Racing 2026/27 Horse To Follow

It's always helpful when a young, up-and-coming trainer unearths a diamond early in their career, and Kelly Mitchley seems to have done just that with MARCHLAND.

This burly Malmoos filly was unbeaten in four two-year-old starts last term. Muzi Yeni's mount claimed Listed wins over six and seven furlongs at Keeneland before ending her campaign with a career-best effort in the Douglas Whyte Stakes at Greyville.

Doesyourmotherknow took the field along at a decent gallop before Marchland took command turning for home and quickly put the race to bed. Mitchley's filly had no trouble seeing out a mile that day and will surely get further with another winter on her back.

All of the fillies' Triple Crown races will be open to Marchland in 2026/27. If she continues to progress, a tilt at the 2027 Durban July could be on the cards too.
