Newbury's card on New Years' Eve is headlined by the final Grade One staged over the festival period, the Challow Hurdle. Paul Nicholls has won the last two runnings of this valuable novices hurdle and it's his recent Cheltenham winner who currently dominates the betting.

Paul Nicholls will be hoping that Hermes Allen can follow in the footsteps of Bravemansgame and Stage Star, when he makes his first start at Newbury on Saturday. Hermes Allen has won both his starts over hurdles this season, bolting up in the Hyde Novices' Hurdle on his most recent start at Cheltenham.
Paul Nolan could send talented novice, Joyeux Machin over from Ireland to contest this Grade One. Harry and Dan Skelton will team up with mare Vicki Vale. Nicky Henderson, a two-time winner of the Challow Hurdle, could be represented by Attacca.
Nigel Twiston-Davies has handed entries to Idalko Bihoue and Weveallbeencaught. Fergal O'Brien saddled his one and only Grade One winner when Poetic Rhythm won this race in 2017, and he could throw Accidental Rebel, Crambo and Marble Sands into the mix.
Other notable Challow Hurdle entrants include Tom Lacey's Ginny's Destiny, Thomas Mor for David Pipe, Jamie Snowden's You Wear It Well and Anthony Honeyball's five-year-old, Kilbeg King.

Hermes Allen is the overwhelming favourite to win Saturday's Grade One and it's hard to knock the market leader's claims. Strong favourites in novice events in England usually result in small fields. However, on this occasion, that's not the case.
For just the second time this century, more than eight runners will contest the Challow Hurdle. With 14 runners confirmed at this stage, we could have as many as four paid places on offer, making an each-way punt against Hermes Allen look all the more appealing.
There are several who appeal to me at tasty prices and the one I'm most keen on is Jamie Snowden's runner, PASSING WELL.
Passing Well ran really well on his final bumper start for Robert Tyner in Ireland, staying on down the rail to follow Green Glory home at the Punchestown Festival. Jamie Snowden then handed his recruit his stable debut at Uttoxeter in November, and Passing Well kept on gamely from the front to repel a Nicky Henderson favourite and claim victory.
The runner-up that day, Issuing Authority went very close against 129-rated Heezer Geezer on his next run. Third-placed Harjo, who was beaten 16 lengths that day, had gotten within two lengths of 128-rated Maximillian on his previous outing.
Passing Well's form looks extremely solid and Tom O'Brien's mount jumped very neatly on debut around Uttoxeter. 18/1 vastly underestimates Passing Well's chances.
Verdict
Passing Well ran up to a good level in Irish bumpers and the form of his maiden hurdle victory is working out well. He could be worth an each-way punt.
