ITV Racing Tips - Saturday 31st December

Race 1 - Hallowe'En Trophy Tips

Chasing debutante, Gamaret tops the market for Saturday's opener. Venetia Williams' six-year-old has several in-form, race-fit, experienced chasers stacked up behind him in the betting, though, and I'd rather place my faith in last year's impressive winner GALLIC GEORDIE.

Having won this race off 99 12 months ago, Sam Drinkwater's nine-year-old was beaten a short-head off this mark on his next outing at Newcastle. Gallic Geordie has to bounce back from a soft fall at Lingfield last time out, but Robbie Dunne's mount is clearly capable of winning off this mark and he should give a bold defense of his crown.

Race 2 - Poundland Handicap Hurdle Tips

It can often pay to back the bottom-weights in long distance handicap hurdles and Ned Fox's claimer means that ONE FER MAMMA will be getting weight from the entire field.

Matt Sheppard's gelding returned from chasing with a course-and-distance triumph last February, seeing out the distance well on heavy ground. One Fer Mamma ran very well for a long way on his reappearance at Haydock and he looks teed up to run well on his return to Warwick.

Race 3 - Handicap Hurdle Tips

We return to Newbury for a really high-quality handicap hurdle and I'm keen to back Gary Moore's hat-trick-seeking five-year-old, WARRANTY.

Moore's charge bolted up on his reappearance at Plumpton in October, and found plenty for pressure when following up at Warwick last time out. The horse Warranty beat that day, Made For You has boosted that form with an eight-length triumph since and Caoilin Quinn's claimer means that Moore's charge has a featherweight of 10-2 to shoulder on Saturday.

Race 4 - Veterans' Handicap Chase Tips

On the back of an encouraging reappearance run at Doncaster, MIDNIGHT MOSS could go very close in this handicap chase.

Despite running well on a number of occasions last season, Oliver Greenhall's ten-year-old returned running off a career-low chasing mark of 111 and Midnight Moss was only narrowly beaten by a well-handicapped former Grade Two winner in Rocky's Treasure. Toby Wynne's mount will run off the same rating again today and he should strip fitter for that return to action.

Race 5 - Mandarin Handicap Chase Tips

Younger horses towards the top end of the weights have performed very well in the Mandarin during the past decade and I'm hoping the return to Newbury, combined with a drop in class, will spark a return to form for GRUMPY CHARLEY.

Chris Honour's charge reached a rating of 143 as a novice last season, having beaten future winner Fern Hill well here at Newbury. After a couple of poor runs in the spring festivals and a pulled up effort on his reappearance at Bangor, Grumpy Charley has been dropped right down to a lenient mark of 135 and he has more than enough class to win off this sort of rating.

Race 6 - Fillies' Handicap Tips

A Class 2 winner at Newbury earlier in the season, MORGAN FAIRY ran well in defeat twice on the all-weather at the end of the summer, including a runner-up finished here at Lingfield in August. A sluggish start ruined her chances at Newmarket last time out, but she could be the class act dropping back down to Class 3 company.

Race 7 - Challow Hurdle Tips

Race 8 - Novices' Limited Handicap Chase Tips

Five last-time-out winners top the market for this wide-open handicap and none of the leading quintet can be ruled out lightly. I'd give another chance to DOCTOR KEN, who was beaten by an Irish raider on his latest chase start at Ayr.

Olly Murphy's six-year-old ran out an impressive winner over Ree Okka on his chase debut at Aintree. Doctor Ken gave a very good account of himself behind Gold Cup Bailly at Ayr, where he rallied after the last to lose by just over a length. The handicapper has upped Doctor Ken's mark by another three pounds for that effort, but there's still plenty of scope for improvement.
