2026 Lester Piggott Fillies' Stakes Runners
Topping the market for Saturday's feature is David O'Meara's stable star Estrange. O'Meara's mare won this race easily 12 months ago, and went on to finish a close second behind Minnie Hauk and Kalpana in a couple of Group Ones.
Waardah will carry a penalty on her reappearance after winning the Group Two Lillie Langtry Stakes at Goodwood last August. Group One-winning jockey, Kieran Shoemark has been confirmed in the saddle of Owen Burrows' dual-Listed winner, Azaniya.
Rab Havlin rides Crepe Suzette for John and Thady Gosden, with William Buick partnering the returning Sharpen for new trainer, George Boughey. Coedana steps up to Group Three company, following a runner-up finish at Listed level at Goodwood.
Naga is the second-string for the Gosdens, and will be looking to improve on a third-place finish in handicap company last time out. Hugo Palmer's recent Chester winner, Patagonia Girl is the eighth and final entrant.
2026 Lester Piggott Fillies' Stakes Tips
Moving this race from Haydock to Carlisle shouldn't make much difference to Estrange. David O'Meara's star mare seems just as happy going right-handed as left-handed, and the stiff finish at Carlisle will suit a horse who is proven in top 12-furlong races.
Estrange is available at a shade of odds against with some firms, which - considering her form compared to the rest of the field - could represent decent value. However, the favourite likes to be held up, as do most of the other runners in the field, which could present AZANIYA (6/1) with a golden opportunity to dominate this contest from the front.
Owen Burrows' filly is the second-highest-rated runner in the field, having clocked an RPR of 112 when winning at Saint-Cloud at the end of last season. Azaniya won four of her five starts last term, winning back-to-back Listed races in France, having started the season with victories at Newmarket and Windsor.
Maxime Guyon took the ride as Azaniya returned to Saint-Cloud on her seasonal return in the Prix Allez France. Burrows' raider went straight to the front, as she usually does, but travelled far too keenly in the opening half of the contest, and the petrol gauge emptied rapidly in the final furlong.
With Callum Rodriguez riding the stable's first string Waardah, Kieran Shoemark has the opportunity to make it three wins from three rides aboard Azaniya. On breeding, this Night Of Thunder filly should have no trouble seeing out this longer distance, and Shoemark's mount is certainly a big player - especially if she grabs herself an uncontested lead.
