2025 Morgiana Hurdle Runners
With State Man ruled out for the season, there's a vacancy to be filled at the head of Willie Mullins' two-mile hurdling ranks. Anzadam had seemed to be the first choice super-sub for State Man, but Willie Mullins has instead opted to give seven-time Grade One winner Lossiemouth her reappearance in Saturday's feature.
Mullins will also be represented by Irancy. Mark Walsh's mount had only run twice in the space of two seasons going into the spring, but followed a seventh-place finish in the Supreme with a Grade Two win at Fairyhouse and a nine-length demolition of Salvator Mundi and Kopek Des Bordes at the Punchestown Festival.
Jack Kennedy and Gordon Elliott team up with Ndaawi, who claimed his hour in the sun when winning the Galway Hurdle over the summer. Glen Kiln completes the line-up, having two of his three appearances for new trainer, David Kelly.
2025 Morgiana Hurdle Tips
Despite his spring heroics at Fairyhouse and Punchestown, Willie Mullins said in his stable tour that he was yet to be convinced that Irancy was top-class. Mark Walsh's mount will have to be an elite two-miler to give LOSSIEMOUTH (2/5) weight and a beating, so it's hard to see the second-favourite turning his stablemate over.
Lossiemouth boasts a perfect reappearance record, having won at Cheltenham and last year's Hatton's Grace on her opening starts of the last two seasons. Paul Townend's mount wasn't at her best in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton and fell in the Irish Champion Hurdle, but added to her Grade One tally with victories in the Mares' Hurdle and Aintree Hurdle during another productive spring campaign.
With State Man injured, Lossiemouth now has a golden opportunity to represent Willie Mullins in this year's Champion Hurdle. There's no doubt that she belongs in Championship race company. I still think Willie will find a way of smuggling her into the Mares' Hurdle again, regardless of whether she wins handsomely this weekend.
