On Sunday, Longchamp racecourse will stage its Arc Trials Day meeting, with the Prix du Moulin headlining a quality afternoon of racing. Ahead of Trials Day, I've taken a look through the Arc betting and picked out my best betting tips.
2026 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Ante-Post Tips - Sunly
Fillies and mares boast an excellent recent record in the Arc. In the last ten years, we've seen five fillies claim victory, with Bluestocking and Alpinista scoring most recently. While also winning the race twice, Enable finished second to Waldgeist in 2019, and we've seen both Tarnawa and Minnie Hauk go close since.
The key Arc trial for fillies and mares will be run at Longchamp on Sunday, where a quality field will contest the Prix Vermeille. SUNLY (50/1) looks set to feature in that Group One this weekend, and victory in this historic contest would thrust Francis Graffard's mare into Arc contention.
Having begun her career with three straight victories, Sunly suffered her first career defeat in last season's Prix de Malleret, where she was touched off by hardy front-runner Qilin Queen over the Arc course and distance. Graffard's filly missed the second half of last season after suffering a setback, but looked like she hadn't missed a beat when winning the Group Three Prix Allez France on her reappearance at Saint-Cloud.
Colin Keane's mount was then touched off by the classy Aventure in the Prix Corrida, before stepping back up to a mile and a half for the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. Sunly travelled close to the pacesetters that day, but was pushed wide coming around the final bend. Aventure was the first to commit, with Sunly hot on her heels. Just as Keane's mount had wrestled the advantage away from Aventure, Calandagan and Cualificar were produced from the rear of the field, and Graffard's filly had to settle for third place.
To finish that close to Calandagan has to be commended, especially as the winner and Cualificar hung left into Sunly during the final two furlongs, forcing her towards the inside rail. Graffard immediately targeted the Prix Vermeille on the back of that performance, and I'm sure she'll be one of the market leaders when the betting for Sunday's renewal is revealed.
If Sunly was to head on to the Arc after the Vermeille, then Graffard would need to find another jockey, as Colin Keane is sure to ride Kalpana for the second year running. Mickael Barzalona will ride defending champion Daryz, but Christophe Soumillon is unbeaten aboard Sunly, and he'd be a sensational booking if Graffard is able to secure his services.
Sunly is an improving filly who appears to act on all sorts of ground and stays a mile and a half well. A strong performance in the Vermeille on Sunday would see her Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe odds shorten considerably.
