2026 Prix du Jockey Club Tips - Can Constitution River overcome a horror draw?
The 2026 Prix du Jockey Club, France's answer to the Epsom Derby, promises an exciting contest at Chantilly with a field of 16 high-class colts. Constitution River is the favorite but faces a tough task from a wide draw, a historic disadvantage in this race. Komorebi, trained by Andre Fabre and drawn well in stall seven, is tipped as the best bet. His solid form, strong pedigree for the distance, and advantageous draw make him a standout. Expect a fast-paced race, with Komorebi well placed to claim victory.

2026 Prix du Jockey Club Runners
Constitution River tops the betting for Sunday's feature at Chantilly. Aidan O'Brien's star will head to France rather than the Epsom Derby, but his chances have been scuppered a bit after a terrible wide draw out in stall 15.
Francis Graffard's Daryzan impressed on his debut at Saint Cloud earlier this month, and sits closest to the two O'Brien runners at the head of the market. Andre Fabre's Komorebi will also move up to ten furlongs after a runner-up finish behind Rayif in the Poulains.
Aidan O'Brien will also saddle Group One winner Hawk Mountain, and recent Listed runner-up Montreal. Karl Burke's Hankelow finished third on his reappearance in the French 2000 Guineas, and will step up in trip at Chantilly on Sunday. Mikel Delzangles will be doubly represented, with Prix Greffulhe winner Alam and Listed winner Dolmalan both sitting prominently in the market.

John and Thady Gosden have decided to supplement Craven Stakes winner Oxagon into Sunday's French Classic. A Boy Named Susie remains a possible runner for Donnacha O'Brien. Other likely challengers include French Guineas fifth Elastic, Andre Fabre's second-string Segall, and German raiders Peace Of Japan and Gostam.
2026 Prix du Jockey Club Tips
I truly believe that Constitution River is Aidan O'Brien's best three-year-old, and he'll have to be truly top class to win the French Derby from a horror draw in stall 15.
Since New Bay won this Classic from stall 13 in 2015, no horse has won from wider than stall eight. 67% of the top four placers in the past ten years have been drawn in a single-figure stall, so the favourite clearly has his work cut out.
Tactics will, therefore, be all-important, and Ballydoyle are very good at executing their plans. A fast early pace would give Constitution River more opportunities to slot in from his wide berth, and stablemates Hawk Mountain and Montreal are both confirmed front-runners.
They won't be the only runners in the field who'll be looking for a fast start. Hankelow, Pearled Majesty and Oxagon like to go forward, and they've been drawn on the rail in stalls one, two and three. Gostam, Campacite and Gusto are likely to be prominent too. The pace here is sure to be red hot.
A burn-up out in front would suit Daryzan, who powered home from the rear to score at Saint-Cloud on his racecourse debut. KOMOREBI (7/1) will be kept out of trouble early on, and I fancy Andre Fabre's colt could be coming home best of all if the pace does indeed collapse.
Komorebi is yet to finish outside the top two in six career starts. Fabre's star won two of his four starts as a juvenile, and got up just in time to deny Nightime on his reappearance in the Prix de Fontainebleau. William Buick then had to be patient from a wide draw in the French 2000 Guineas, and sat wide for much of the contest. Komorebi took a little too long to find top gear, but eventually found full stride in the final furlong to finish just a length adrift of Rayif in second.
Pinatubo's progeny boast an excellent strike rate over further than a mile. His dam, Lyric Of Light, has produced a couple of decent ten-furlong horses, and the way Komorebi races suggests that he'll relish this step up in distance.
Buick has landed a kind draw in stall seven on this occasion, and he'll have no trouble slotting in as runners on either side of him battle for the early pace. The Poule d'Essai des Poulains is often the best trial for the Prix du Jockey Club, so Komorebi seems to have plenty going in his favour.
