The 2021 Cheltenham Festival kicks off in stunning fashion, as many of the best novice hurdlers in the sport do battle in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle. The Supreme is renowned for producing future superstars, with greats like Flyingbolt, Golden Cygnet, Vautour and Altior standing out on the roll of

Appreciate It currently tops the market, ahead of two fellow Grade One winners. He may be a short price, but it Appreciate It Ireland's banker on day one?

2021 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Tips – Vulnerable Favourite

Appreciate It has been cut into a very short price for the Supreme, having won two Grade Ones around Leopardstown this season. During his bumper campaign, which included a runner-up finish in the Champion Bumper, Willie Mullins star looked a stayer to me. I backed him at the start of the season for the Ballymore, but after his conqueror in the Champion Bumper, Ferny Hollow got injured, Mullins has kept Appreciate It over two miles.

Of the four hurdles races staged over two miles at the Dublin Racing Festival, Appreciate It's Chanelle Pharma was the slowest. We saw what a speedier sort in Ferny Hollow did to Appreciate It on the run to the line in last year's Bumper. He could be the most talented horse in the race, but Appreciate It is far from bomb-proof over the minimum distance.

Following their run at Leopardstown in February, I backed BALLYADAM at a tasty price of 10/1.
Gordon Elliott's Royal Bond winner was beaten 16-lengths behind Appreciate It over Christmas, but returned a dirty scope in the aftermath.

As the field turned for home in the Chanelle Pharma, Ballyadam loomed up for a crack at Appreciate It, and was travelling just as well as the favourite. Kennedy might have fancied his chances, until a poor jump at the last allowed Appreciate It to get away, and Ballyadam simply couldn't bridge the gap.

Having been sick over Christmas, I doubt Ballyadam will have been fully wound-up for his last outing at Leopardstown. I'm confident he will turn the tables on Appreciate It when they meet again in the Supreme.

2021 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Tips – The British Challenge

Metier currently sits closest to Appreciate It in the betting, and certainly looks to be Britain's leading contender on day one of the Cheltenham Festival. Harry Fry's charge made all to win his first two starts over jumps. Under a more patient ride, Metier then showed an excellent turn-of-foot on heavy ground to win the Tolworth by 12 lengths.

You can, however, poke holes in Metier's form. Tile Tapper has twice placed behind Sean Bowen's mount, and he's rated just 130. Shakem Up'Arry didn't do much to boost the form of the Tolworth in the Betfair Hurdle either, where he was beaten 12 lengths off a mark of 136. At 7/1 I don't think Metier offers a massive amount of value.

Soaring Glory ran out a comfortable winner of the Betfair Hurdle, scoring by three lengths with just 10-7 on his back. Jonjo O’Neill is fully entitled to have a crack at the Supreme on the back of that display. I think there’s more progression to come from this likable sort, but he seems more of a handicapper, and the County Hurdle could be more suitable.

Bareback Jack has been very keen, making all to win his three starts over fences. I’m always hesitant to back keen-going front-runners in a race like the Supreme, where they often go hell for leather from the drop of the flag. You need to be a really, really strong stayer to see it out from the front.

Atholl Street has caught the eye a couple of times this season too, but he'll be running in the Dovecote this weekend. Incidentally, Paul Nicholls has had just one runner in the Supreme since 2014 - and that was a second-season hurdler and a Grade Two winner in Grand Sancy - so it's not a race he targets with inexperienced horses.

Gowel Road looked good when winning at Newbury, but I feel the turn-around may be a little tight for a horse who still looks very green. Third Time Lucki has endured a hard campaign at a lower level than this, so I suspect the Skelton’s don't feel he's Grade One quality.

Benson is a talented horse, but he'll have to step up his game to mix it at this level. As will Fifty Ball, Guard Your Dreams and Cadzand, who were all beaten behind Soaring Glory in the Betfair Hurdle.

2021 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Tips – Irish Raiders

Blue Lord looks a talent, and he could join Appreciate It in the Supreme. Having finished a little weak behind Bob Olinger at Naas – where he pulled hard for the first half of the race – I thought Blue Lord ran really well behind Appreciate It and Ballyadam in the Chanelle Pharma. It wouldn’t be a shock if he challenged for the win.

Dreal Deal has been the story of the season in Ireland, with his astonishing run of form culminating in a shock victory in the Moscow Flyer. I doubt whether that run will carry on into the Cheltenham Festival, but I'd like to see Ronan McNally's charge take his chance.

Thedevilscoachman has ability, but was found out a little when only fifth behind Appreciate It over Christmas. Ganapathi looks more of a stayer to me, so I was a little surprised when Willie said he'd drop back in trip for the Supreme.

Keskonrisk and Irascible are certainly worth mentions too, but both have ten lengths to find on Appreciate It, and I'm not sure where that improvement's going to come from.

Considering I think Appreciate It is a weak favourite, and the fact a large field is guaranteed, I’m going to have a second each-way punt. Blue Lord was my initial thought. However, if you delve a little deeper into ANY NEWS’ form, there’s plenty of reason to suggest he’s overpriced at 50/1.

Neil Mulholland's six-year-old beat a future two-time winner in Glory And Fortune by seven lengths on his first start of the season in a bumper. Any News then walloped Easy As That at Bangor, and the runner-up went on to beat Eamon An Cnoic - who also managed to win next time out - by a similar margin at Chepstow.

Any News then lost out by a length to Make Me A Believer in a novice’s hurdle during Cheltenham's International Meeting. Sam Twiston-Davies' charge got in a little close at a couple of his hurdles, and seemed to hop the path turning for home, but still edged into a narrow lead with 200 yards to go, only for Make Me A Believer to battle back and win.

Any News was giving Make Me A Believer seven pounds that day. The winner was then only beaten half-a-length in the Leamington at Warwick, and will probably run in either the Ballymore or Albert Bartlett. Lucky One, who trailed home a 12-length third, also gave that form line a boost when bolting up by 30-lengths at Wincanton earlier this month.

While his long-term future may lie over fences, it's hard to knock anything Any News has done so far this season. He's been freshened up for a busy spring campaign, and I fancy Mullholland's charge will run a mighty race.

I'm out to get Appreciate It, and I fancy Ballyadam will be primed to gain revenge on his Leopardstown conqueror at Cheltenham.

I've also taken a punt on Any News, who's form looks very solid and could run well beyond his 50/1 price-tag.
