Turffontein Tips - Saturday 16th May
Race 1 - PERFECT SKY (8)
PERFECT SKY produced a decent debut effort over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. She should have finished closer to the winner as she hung inwards in the final 200m. The daughter of Vercingetorix returns from a 15-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
Race 2 - GONE COLD (4)
GONE COLD is the top bet on the programme. He was slow into stride over this C&D last time, but stayed on to finish second. It must be noted that Turn It Up has come out and won again since. The son of Gimmethegreenlight looks to have ability and should take a power of beating with Gavin Lerena in the saddle.
Race 4 - CELTIC MANOR (7)
CELTIC MANOR is one of the better bets on the card. She produced a promising debut effort over 1160m on this course. She took the lead at the 200m mark before getting caught late by Top Secret. The daughter of Master Of My Fate would have gained from the experience and is bred to love the rise to 1600m. She jumps from pole position and with the natural improvement expected, she is the horse to beat.
Race 6 - REPETITION (4)
REPETITION ran a fair race over 1800m on the Inside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D, under Trent Mayhew. The son of Twice Over should get a good run in transit from barrier four and may be the one to beat.
Race 7 - ONE MORE STAR (3)
ONE MORE STAR tired late when fourth over 2400m at the Vaal last time. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from six starts over this distance. The son of One World runs well for Callan Murray and he can return to winning ways.
Kenilworth Tips - Saturday 16th May
Race 1 - SPARKLING STAR (9)
SPARKLING STAR was a beaten odds-on favourite over 1200m on this course last time. Her debut effort when second over this C&D, catches the eye. The daughter of Rafeef may be at her best over this distance at this stage of her career. Unless one of the first timers have class about them, she should take a power of beating.
Race 2 - NAVASNINE (4)
NAVASNINE showed good improvement when second in his first outing as a gelding. He raced from just off the pace, but found one too good in the form of Magma Flow. The son of Gimmethegreenlight would have come on from the outing and will strip much fitter. Craig Zackey is booked to ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
Race 4 - ROYAL INFLUENCER (2)
ROYAL INFLUENCER ran a fair race over 1400m on this course last time. The son of Royal Mo will love the rise to 1800m. He has cracked a good draw of two and if JP van der Merwe is able to switch him off early, he may be the one to beat.
Race 5 - TRIP TO CAMELOT (7)
TRIP TO CAMELOT has shown good improvement since the gelding in December. He produced a good turn of foot when winning his maiden over this distance at Hollywoodbets Durbanville last time. The son of Trippi takes on stronger, but he has plenty of scope and can follow up with another victory.
Race 6 - SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE (2)
SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE followed up her maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 1400m on this course. She challenged strongly, but found one too good in the form of South Of France. The daughter of Rafeef will love the extra 100m on offer and from her good draw of two, she may be the one to beat.
Verdict
Sparkling Star (Race 1) is Magic Tips' best bet at Kenilworth on Saturday. Over at Turffontein, Gone Cold (Race 2) is the NAP of the day.
