Every winter, the world’s elite flat racers descend on Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, to take part in the Dubai World Cup Carnival.

This season, the carnival runs through its usual rhythm of Friday night cards before reaching its climax when the Dubai World Cup itself takes centre stage. With prestigious races, international challengers and glitzy presentations, this carnival is both a sporting and social highlight of the global racing calendar.

Here's everything you need to know about the 2026 Dubai World Cup Carnival.

2026 Dubai World Cup Carnival Dates

The 2025-26 Dubai Racing Carnival opens on Friday 7th November 2025 and runs through to the end of March. The main Friday fixtures will begin in January, with the meeting drawing to a fitting conclusion with Dubai World Cup Night on Saturday 28th March, 2026.

Along the way, significant cards such as “Festive Friday” in December, “Fashion Friday” in January and “Emirates Super Saturday” in February anchor the carnival’s progression, building momentum toward the grand finale.

Key Races

Each Friday meeting at Meydan offers a mix of sprint, mile, and staying contests on both turf and dirt, but the centrepiece remains the Dubai World Cup card. These lead-up Fridays serve as key qualifiers and form guides for participants aiming at the final Saturday show-down.

The card on Dubai World Cup night is stacked with Grade One races. Turf races will get their chance to shine in the Sheema Classic and the Dubai Turf, before dirt races battle it out for a $12 million purse in the Dubai World Cup.

Leading Trainers

The Dubai World Cup Carnival always attracts a world-class group of trainers, and 2025-26 is set to be no different.

On the turf, Charlie Appleby continues to set the benchmark. The Godolphin trainer has turned Meydan’s lush turf track into his own testing ground, sending out winners with remarkable consistency across distances from sprints to staying races. His team typically includes proven European Group performers wintering in Dubai to sharpen for the northern season ahead, and any Appleby-trained runner on turf commands respect.

Doug Watson, a seven-time UAE champion, remains the benchmark, renowned for producing tough, consistent horses that peak during the Carnival’s most important stages. His record in mile and sprint races keeps him a regular fixture in the winner’s circle.

Bhupat Seemar, operating from Zabeel Stables, has quickly joined the top tier, with his well-drilled team regularly striking in the Godolphin Mile and Al Maktoum Challenge Series.

Musabbeh Al Mheiri also commands respect, known for preparing durable campaigners who often hit form early and carry it through the season, particularly over distances between 1,200 and 1,600 metres.

Rising star, Ahmad bin Harmash has earned growing recognition with a focused, strategic approach that delivers results on both turf and dirt.

At the same time, veteran Saeed bin Suroor remains a defining figure of the Carnival, his multiple Dubai World Cup triumphs underlining his enduring ability to deliver when it matters most.
