Top fillies from Britain, Ireland and France met in an excellent renewal of the Nassau Stakes this afternoon.

Emily Upjohn, supplemented into the contest, was backed into favouritism before the off. Aidan O'Brien's Opera Singer remained prominent in the market. Patrice Cottier's Prix de Diane winner, Sparkling Plenty was also heavily backed ahead of her British debut.

1000 Guineas heroine, Elmalka stepped up beyond a mile for the first time. See The Fire was the final three-year-old in Thursday's Group One feature.

Like Emily Upjohn, Ralph Beckett's Doha was supplemented into today's Nassau Stakes. Lady Boba also ran for Beckett's stable. Lumiere Rock and Stay Alert completed a high-quality field.

Lumiere Rock, the only real front-runner in the race, was away smartly. As was Opera Singer, and Ryan Moore pushed his mount into the lead. Lady Boba and Elmalka were prominent on the rail, with Doha and Sparkling Plenty held up early on.

Emily Upjohn was a little slowly away from her high draw. Kieran Shoemark couldn't find a gap to slot in, meaning the favourite sat near the rear going into the bend.

Turning for home, Opera Singer and Lumiere Rock opened up a three-length lead over the field. Joseph O'Brien's filly gave was as See The Fire and Elmalka attempted to make inroads, but Opera Singer was still going well out in front and Moore was keen to grab the inside rail.

See The Fire kept on gamely in the closing stages, pulling within a neck of the leader at one point. Sparkling Plenty kept on beyond Elmalka in the closing stages, but Opera Singer seemed to have plenty in-hand and Aidan O'Brien's filly held off See The Fire to claim her second Group One success.

Elmalka held on to finish fourth ahead of Doha, who kept on well from off the pace. Emily Upjohn crossed the line fifth, a long way adrift of the leaders.
