Day two at the July Festival at Newmarket is headlined by the Falmouth Stakes. This Group One provides three-year-old fillies with their first opportunity to take on older mares over a mile and it's the younger generation who dominate the betting for Friday's renewal.

Donnacha O'Brien said earlier in the week that the ground will dictate whether PORTA FORTUNA (6/4) takes up her Falmouth Stakes entry.
The going at Newmarket is currently soft for the opening day of the July Festival. However, plenty of sunshine has is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, and although the outlook is cloudy on Friday, there's a good chance the ground will dry up in time for the favourite.
On this season's form, Porta Fortuna is the clear standout. O'Brien's stable star was only touched off by Elmalka in the 1000 Guineas. At Royal Ascot, Porta Fortuna looked the most likely winner a long way from home, eventually running Opera Singer down late on to claim a cosy victory.
With Oisin Murphy obligated to ride Running Lion and Tom Marquand riding up at York on Friday, Ryan Moore has been subbed in to ride the favourite. Not a bad deputy, I'm sure you'll agree.
Porta Fortuna is rated seven pounds higher than Running Lion, the second-highest rated in the field, and the favourite will be getting nine pounds from the older horses at the weights. A Lilac Rolla is the biggest danger to the market leader, but Ryan Moore's mount is clearly the one that they all have to beat.

Verdict
If Porta Fortuna was trained by Donnacha O'Brien's father, Aidan, then she would be odds-on to win Friday's Falmouth Stakes. With the ground likely to dry out at Newmarket, it's worth taking the 6/4 that's currently on offer.
