Clan Des Obeaux beat Thistlecrack to win his first King George in 2018. before scoring again in even more impressive fashion 12 months ago. Paul Nicholls has now given up on the Cheltenham Gold Cup with this horse. After an excellent reappearance at Haydock, this is now the main event of the season for Clan Des Obeaux, and he will attempt to become just the fourth three-time winner of the King George.

Cyrname remains the highest-rated chaser in the sport, despite suffering a heavy defeat to his stablemate in this race in 2019. Paul Nicholls' star proved he could go left-handed, and that he could see out three miles, when hacking up in the Charlie Hall Chase on his return, afterwhich he joined Clan Des Obeaux at the head of the betting.

King George VI Chase Runners

Lostintranslation is the only other runner who can be found at a price under 10/1. Colin Tizzard's Gold Cup third was well-beaten on unsuitable ground on his return up at Haydock, and suffered a heavy fall after an error-strewn display in the 2019 King George.

With stablemate Minella Indo heading the ante-post betting for the Savills' Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas, Henry De Bromhead could send Monalee over to Kempton. Monalee produced a career-best effort to finish fourth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but was well-beaten behind Presenting Percy and Kemboy at Thurles on his reappearance.

Kemboy has an entry here, but a return to the Savills Chase which he won in 2018 seems more likely. Allaho and Melon could also run here, if they don't run at Leopardstown's Christmas Festival.

Paul Nicholls has handed entries to Real Steel, who ran well in the Cheltenham Gold Cup for Willie Mullins last season, and Frodon, who laboured home fourth in the Many Clouds Chase last time out.

Harry Whittington could give Saint Calvados his first start over three miles in the King George. The Storyteller could make the trip over from Gordon Elliott's yard, while Vinndication, Simply The Betts, Al Dancer and Black Op have also been handed King George entries.
