Bow Echo triumphed in the 2026 St James's Palace Stakes, following up his previous success in the 2000 Guineas. The race featured a rematch with Gstaad, who finished a close second after a troubled start. Talk Of New York delivered a strong third-place effort, while Power Blue and Puerto Rico faded after setting the early pace. Bow Echo, trained by George Boughey, underscored his elite status by completing an impressive Newmarket-Royal Ascot double. The key takeaway is Bow Echo’s sustained dominance among three-year-old colts this season.

The 2026 St James's Palace Stakes saw Bow Echo and Gstaad square off again after meeting in the 2000 Guineas.

Bow Echo claimed a commanding victory that day, but Gstaad bounced back from that defeat by winning the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh. George Boughey's Classic winner topped the Royal Ascot betting, but Gstaad was supported into 5/2 second-favouritism following two wins for Aidan O'Brien on Tuesday's Royal Ascot card.

Coolmore were also represented by Group One-winning juvenile Puerto Rico, who finished fourth on his return in the French 2000 Guineas. Godolphin's hopes lay at the feet of Talk Of New York, who looked smart when winning the Heron Stakes at Sandown.

Robson De Aquiar ran Power Blue following seventh and fourth-placed efforts in the two colts Classics. Lord Britain completed the field for new training partnership Ismail Mohammed & Jose Santos.

As soon as the starting stalls opened, the runners began to jostle for position. David Egan and Power Blue forced their way to the front, causing Puerto Rico to settle for second place in the early stages.

Talk Of New York sat third, some four lengths adrift of the early pace. Bow Echo sat on William Buick's shoulder. Ryan Moore was squeezed out early, and Gstaad sat last going into the bend alongside Lord Britain.

The pace lifted coming out of the bend, and Puerto Rico was the first to come under pressure. Ryan Moore had to dart towards the inside rail, as Bow Echo tanked into contention on the outside of the leaders.

Talk Of New York tracked Bow Echo into contention and tried to keep tabs on the 2000 Guineas winner. Gstaad fought back valiantly along the rail, inching closer and closer to Bow Echo as the line approached. Yet it was George Boughey's star who stuck his neck out at the right time, and Bow Echo completed the Newmarket-Royal Ascot double.

Gstaad lost nothing in defeat, and Ryan Moore might rue the start of the contest, where Gstaad got shuffled back. Talk Of New York ran well in third, with Power Blue finishing ahead of Lord Britain and Puerto Rico.
