One of the more famous sprints in Australia, this 1100m Group 1 dash is generally a competitive affair and once again, an open race awaits punters on Saturday.

2024 Oakleigh Plate Best Bet - Sghirripa
This gelding one of the more promising sprinters to come out of South Adelaide in recent years and he continues to furnish with racing, having won his last two attempts.
Those two outings have been in Melbourne, which includes a Listed triumph over this track/trip before producing a career-best performance up the straight at Flemington.
As a galloper who was still doing plenty wrong as he was working through the grades, that last start Group 3 Standish Handicap performance stood out in terms of professionalism.
A wide gate isn't that big of negative one-turn sprint circuit and with Sghirripa having shown his versatility this season, he doesn't need to get into a early speed battle here.
2024 Oakleigh Plate Next Best Bet - King's Gambit
Although he wasn't the most genuine, I've always felt that King's Gambit is the most talented sprinter in his crop, with Team Snowden colt spelled after a Group 3 win in spring.
He defeated the subsequent Coolmore Stud winner (Ozzmosis) in that last start triumph and this three-year-old was scratched from that Group 1 due to an elevated temperature.
With a Group 1 win still needed for his stallion resume, the Oakleigh Plate looks a clear target assignment for King's Gambit, who bolted in at Caulfield on debut as a juvenile.
The son of I Am Invincible has always been a good trialler and he's completed two Sydney hit-outs leading into this fresh tilt, where he carries just 50kg in the famous sprint handicap.
2024 Oakleigh Plate Value Bet - Kallos
While he looks poorly in at the top of the weights with no Group 1 credentials, this Godolphin sprinter couldn't have been more impressive first-up in the Rubiton Stakes.
Asfoora is predicted to improve from that return outing, however, with Kallos meeting that mare 1kg better off from a soft one-length win, I'm not sure why he's nearly triple her quote.
The future appeared unclear after a sole spring flop in September, but he was tipped straight out after that return performance and James Cummings has turned him around.
Track pattern will be crucial, as he's likely to be back and look to chime in late under Blake Shinn, although he'll relish a strong tempo, especially if the wider lanes are in play.
