3:15pm Ripon - Origintrail

It's been a while between drinks for ORIGINTRAIL (5/1), who hasn't won since scoring at Chester two years ago. Ben Haslam's mare struggled off a rating of 83 at the start of last season, but did go close twice here at Ripon in the summer, losing out narrowly to Ey Up It's Maggie and Twelfth Knight.

Paul Mulrennan's mount ran a cracker on her reappearance at Catterick, going down by half-a-length to Tyger Bay, who bolted up off a four-pound higher mark next time out. Barring a poor effort in the valuable City Of Dales Handicap on her final outing of 2023, Origintrail always seems to run well at this venue and I'd give her a decent chance in this classy affair.

4:15pm Newmarket - Too Friendly

TOO FRIENDLY (9/2) was punted off the boards in the build-up to the Chester Cup. Silvestre De Sousa's mount eventually went off at 9/2, but travelled a little too keen in the early stages and couldn't pick up when Zoffee sprinted for home.

Since joining James Owen, Too Friendly has improved 20 pounds over hurdles and carried 10-00 to victory on the all-weather at Kempton in March. While the Chester Cup may not have gone to plan, the backing he's received on his last two starts suggests this talented dual-purpose horse is well handicapped on the level and this shorter trip may suit him better.

6:15pm Newmarket - Prince Of Pillo

Having reached a rating of 104 after an excellent juvenile campaign, PRINCE OF PILLO (8/1) struggled in 2023. Poor performances on his first three starts forced Middleham Park to switch their sprinter to Richard Fahey's yard, but his final two outings of the season were no better.

After an enforced absence, Prince Of Pillo made his reappearance here during the Craven Meeting. While Oisin Orr's mount only finished eighth of 14, he ran most of the race on his own down the inside rail and kept on well in the closing stages. The handicapper dropped his rating by another three pounds for that effort, meaning he'll enter this less competitive contest running off a lowly rating of just 86. Prince Of Pillo could go close if he's come on for that reappearance.
