2025 Gold Cup Entries - Record low of 19 entries for Cheltenham's showpiece event

19 horses have been handed an initial entry for the 2025 Cheltenham Gold Cup, which will be run on day four of the Cheltenham Festival on March 14th.
The average number of horses entered for the Cheltenham Gold Cup has been around 35 since the turn of the Millennium. Up until 2021, it was rare to see less than 30 names entered at the opening stage and the majority of those entrants were trained in Britain.
In recent years, the number of total entries has begun to dwindle. 27 horses were entered in January 2023 and 20 were registered this time last year. The entries for the 2025 Gold Cup were announced today and the total entries have shrunk again, with just 19 names appearing on the list.
Galopin Des Champs will bid to emulate greats like Arkle and Best Mate by completing a hat-trick of Gold Cup wins. He and second-favourite Fact To File top the betting for Willie Mullins, who could also be represented by Embassy Gardens, Grangeclare West and Minella Cocooner.
Henry De Bromhead has handed entries to Monty's Star and Jungle Boogie. King George hero Banbridge was entered in the Gold Cup, the Ryanair and the Champion Chase. Corbetts Cross, Hewick and Gerri Colombe could also represent Ireland - who've won eight of the last ten renewals of this historic contest.
Just five British horses have even been entered in the 2025 Gold Cup. Dan Skelton's Grey Dawning is the highest-placed in the betting, which can be found here on our website.
Neither Paul Nicholls nor Nicky Henderson will have runners in this year's feature. Venetia Williams has entered Royale Pagaille and L'Homme Presse. Lucinda Russell's Ahoy Senor and The Real Whacker for Patrick Neville are the two remaining home representatives. French raider, Il Est Francais rounds off the 2025 Gold Cup entries.
