The 28th and final race at the Cheltenham Festival is the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle. Named in honour of one of Britain's most successful trainer, the Martin Pipe is run over a trip of two-and-a-half-miles and only amateur riders are allowed to take part.

Martin Pipe Key Trends
- 10 of the last 10 winners were either five, six or seven-years-old
- 9 of the last 10 winners had run after January 7th
- 8 of the last 10 winners had previously run in a Graded race
- 8 of the last 10 winners had never won a handicap
- 8 of the last 10 winners finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd last time out
Topping the market is Spanish Harlem, but I don't think he's as good as Willie Mullins' previous winners of this race. Mullins' charge was thrashed 12 lengths by Three Card Brag at Fairyhouse and couldn't even beat Riaan when the two met at Thurles last time out.
Gordon Elliott will run as many as he can in a race that he always targets. Riaan will be part of Elliott's team, but he wouldn't be anywhere near the top of my shortlist.

Willie Mullins has overlooked his usual amateur jockeys to book Michael O'Sullivan for the ride on Spanish Harlem. I haven't been impressed with the favourite's jumping this season, though, and would much rather side with Gordon Elliott's first-string COOL SURVIVOR.
Stablemate Imagine has been backed into a short price. Elliott's five-year-old has won just one of his four starts this season, finishing second at both Grade Three and Listed level. Cool Survivor is rated just one pound higher than Imagine, despite having a Listed victory on his resume and a mere four-length behind Good Land in the Nathaniel Lacy at Leopardstown. Of the two, I'd much rather back Cool Survivor.
Another runner I'm very keen on is IROKO, who I backed for the Martin Pipe at 20/1 at the ante-post stage.
Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero's star finished fourth in a couple of top juvenile races last season and has been victorious on both his starts at Wetherby this term. Greenall has said that Iroko needs soft ground, so I'm confident that this progressive five-year-old will deal with the going on day four of the Cheltenham Festival.
Verdict
Cool Survivor and Iroko are our two against the field in the Martin Pipe.
