Having dominated the first two days of this famous meeting, Ireland went into the Stayers' Hurdle looking for their first winner on St Patrick's Day.

Gordon Elliott's Teahupoo was sent off as the strong favourite for the Stayers' Hurdle, despite the drying ground at Cheltenham going slightly against him. Fergal O'Brien's Crambo sat second in the market, ahead of Cleeve Hurdle winner, Noble Yeats and former two-time Cheltenham winner, Sir Gerhard.

Flooring Porter, Paisley Park and Sire Du Berlais were looking to add another Stayers' Hurdle to their CVs. Home By The Lee, Asterion Forlonge, Janidil and Buddy One flew the flag for Ireland, with Dashel Drasher looking to build on his runner-up finish of 12 months ago.

Noble Yeats was a bit of a handful for Harry Cobden before the start and the Grand National winner made the early running alongside Asterion Forlonge. Flooring Porter was prominent along with inside rail, with Crambo running keen just behind.

Sire Du Berlais was dropped out at the back early on by Mark Walsh. Teahupoo settled in the midfield, with Paul Townend and Sir Gerhard sitting on the shoulder of the main pack.

As the leaders attempted to steady the pace, Keith Donoghue took Flooring Porter to the front. Cobden gladly claimed a bit of cover on Noble Yeats as the well-packed field passed the stands for the first time.

With three hurdles to go, Donoghue upped the fractions on Flooring Porter. Noble Yeats and Sire Du Berlais were the first to be ridden along. Paisley Park hit his customary flat spot at the top of the hill.

Turning for home, Teahupoo moved onto Flooring Porter's tail and a good jump at the second-last sent Jack Kennedy's mount into the lead. Flooring Porter battled on bravely, but another sound leap at the last helped Teahupoo justify favouritism impressively.

Home By The Lee kept on well to finish third behind the valiant Flooring Porter. The plucky Buddy One kept on gamely to finish fourth, ahead of the staying-on Sire Du Berlais.

Emma Lavelle announced after the race that Paisley Park would be heading into retirement. What a wonderful horse he has been for connections.
