2025 Prix Jacques le Marois Runners
After favourite Rosallion was ruled out on Friday, The Lion In Winter now heads the betting. Aidan O'Brien's star struggled in the Dante and the Derby, but bounced back to form with a narrow defeat in the Prix Jean Prat on his most recent outing at Deauville.
Christophe-Patrice Lemaire rides Japanese star Ascoli Piceno, who landed his second Group One win at Tokyo back in May. Former 2000 Guineas winner, Notable Speech steps back up to a mile after finding six furlongs a little too sharp in the July Cup. Lockinge runner-up, Dancing Gemini will bid to bounce back after a disappointing showing in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Docklands claimed a shock victory in that Group One, but could only finish fifth on his latest outing in the Sussex Stakes. Aidan O'Brien's second-string, Diego Velazquez claimed Group Two glory last time out and will have his first start in the colours of new owners, Sam Sangster Bloodstock.
The leading home challenger is Francis Graffard's Zabiari, who'll be looking to complete a four-timer following a Group Three triumph at Chantilly. Ridari steps back up to Group One company, following a third-place finish in the Prix Messidor. Former Prix Maurice de Gheest winner, King Gold and a second Japanese raider, Koichi Shintani's Go To First complete the line-up.
2025 Prix Jacques le Marois Tips
All of the leading contenders have drawbacks, for me, so I'm going to chance my arm with the second three-year-old in this contest, RIDARI (14/1).
Mikel Delzangles' star colt won the Prix de Fountainebleau on his reappearance and went into the French 2000 Guineas as a 5/1 shot. Ridari was held up too far off the pace that day, but finished like a train to claim fifth as Henri Matisse edged ahead in a blanket finish.
Cristian Demuro's mount looked a little one-paced when sixth in the ten-furlong Prix du Jockey Club. Back over a mile in the Prix Messidor, Ridari pulled hard near the rear of the field, but still found a late flourish to cross the line third behind Quddwah, who got the run of the race throughout.
A mile certainly seems to be Ridari's best trip and Demuro should find plenty of early cover from a central draw in stall six. Three-year-olds get a healthy weight allowance in this historic Group One and I fancy this promising young colt has been overlooked.
