2026 Coronation Cup Entries
The first two from last year's Coronation Cup look set for a rematch in 2026. Jan Brueghel and Calandagan went toe-to-toe down the famous Epsom straight, and it was Aidan O'Brien's star who came out on top.
That defeat sparked a five-race winning sequence for Calandagan, who went on to win the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the Champion Stakes, the Japan Cup and the Sheema Classic. Jan Brueghel was well-beaten behind Calandagan on his final outing of 2025 in the King George, and returned to action with a routine success in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester.
Sitting closest to the top two in the market is Karl Burke's Convergent, who'll step back into Group One company following an impressive reappearance victory in the John Porter at Newbury. Epsom Derby winner Lambourn could return to Epsom, having bounced back to winning ways in the Huxley Stakes earlier this month.
2024 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Goliath is another possible runner for Calandagan's trainer Francis Graffard. Former Arc runner-up Aventure has been entered by Christophe Ferland, with German Group One winner Bay City Roller likely to represent George Scott.
Charlie Johnston's Epsom Derby runner-up, Lazy Griff is entered, but is yet to make his seasonal reappearance. Illinois could be used as a pacemaker by Aidan O'Brien. Ralph Beckett has entered by Pride Of Arras and Amiloc. Andrew Balding's Eydon, William Haggas' Arabian Force, and David Menuisier's Sunway could also take up their Group One entries.
